I don’t care about most data but interesting data can lead to interesting creative
With this attitude, it’s no wonder the consultancies and digital shops are stealing market share from traditional creative agencies. Data isn’t everything, but it’s also not nothing.
Data can do a lot, but it’s hard to use once the one and only insight from it isn’t interesting yet is already signed off by the client. Too much “moms are busy” not enough “moms listen to gangsta rap when they’re busy."
Dont hate data. Hate the people using data the wrog way
How is data ruining insightful work? Where the fuck so you think insights come from?
Data is dumb when you don’t ask the right questions. Research needs to catch up with the nuances, quirks and reality we live in.
The greatest thing to ruin insightful work since the focus group.

When it comes to data, psychographics > demographics
Wish I saw more of the former.
You don’t need data to come up with an insight but you need data to prove your insight is worth something.
Agencies are gonna fail because their employees are data illiterate for the most part. It’s completely unreasonable for any client to not want to see results for the dollars they spend.
Rather than think that data is hurting the industry, think about where marketing is positioned and the type of data that is collected. Agencies have the ability to interact with potential customers prior to purchase. For example, there’s massive value in forecasting actual sales and using that information to alter production to anticipate market changes.
Ignoring it completely makes you a fool. Use data wisely and don’t mistake it for an insight. Data is one of many tools at our disposal.

Humans are impulsive as fuck and their buying habits will never be fully spreadsheetable, no matter how much you try. Yes, we can do more with more information, but take a risk on something that just feels right every now and then.
