Is this not the type of stuff you should be consulting your clients on?
I feel like someone could bill big bucks to just rearrange a Visio org chart 😂
They do! Hahah it’s called org design and workforce planning. So funny that we get asked about this when we’re always rearranging
So fix it for them...
Others have Industries reporting to a Functionality. Doesnt make much sense to me that way
For many types of works, the industry is less important than the type of work being performed. To take a basic example, why should there be 10 separate strategy practices within a firm all working in different industries? Makes no sense
Don’t most firms do that? I know PwC does at least
A1 what is a strategist specialized in manufacturing going to bring to a bank? It makes way more sense to organize by industry with a few specific exceptions (such as cybersecurity)
Most companies do a lot of M&A. That jumbles up everything, not just org charts
P2, what I'm saying is that in SOME areas it's more useful to specialize by function or area, rather than by industry first.
So for example, someone who's developed technology strategies across multiple industries and clients would probably be more successful at developing a technology strategy for Client X in Industry Y than some who has more general strategy experience in Industry Y but knows nothing about technology
A1 you wouldn’t have a strategy consultant do implementation work. You organize by industry for revenue and HR purposes and then have your functions fall across that. It’s also better for cross-selling work. If you organize by function only, there is minimal incentive to work together across functions in the firm. When you organize by industry, there is incentive at the partner level to work together across functions and provide more cohesive services to the client.
