Capco

I don't have a 401k set up yet, but I know Capco does a match. How should I set one up and how does all of this work? I want to be able to reap the benefits that come with my employment. Any advice?

Go to Vanguard and register using Capco / personal info. Contribute at least to the match - which is half of 6% I believe - cause its free money. Pick a fund that matches your goals / interest - assuming youre young pick something aggressive with low fees.

It's 50% of 6% so effectively 3%? But, there's a vesting schedule ? How does that tie in Sorry for all the questions

Yes, if you contribute 6 or more percent capco will kick in 3 percent. Your contributions, along with the 3 percent match will be reflected immediately after the deduction from your paycheck. 1/3 of the match from capco vests every year. After 3 years, everything from the capco match is vested. Vesting just means you have a legal right to the contribution if you leave. If you leave before the Vesting period, you forfeit the matched contribution from capco.

I already had a Roth ira at vanguard before working for capco and one day I just had a 401k account magically set up. I still had to chose what I wanted to buy with the funds and change my contribution. Process was pretty painless. Contribute at least 6 percent or you're leaving free money on the table.

I should contribute 6% of my total yearly salary?

I will definitely check that out! Thank you

Do at least 6. If you can afford to do more, do it. It will decrease your tax burden too as its a pretax deduction.

Do 9-10 in your first year, increase by 3-4% each year so you start maxing out by year 3-4
