I don't have time to make purees at home. I buy from store all the time. I make sure it's organic and natural preservatives. I feel guilty that I don't give my six months old baby home made food ☹️

Think of it this way, would your baby appreciate the extra effort you would put in to make purée? Would it end up on the floor, clothes, chair, and maybe a few bites actually consumed? Those little organic pouches of purée are the GREATEST- so much variety, healthy and small portions and travel-ready. Some of the marketing even talks about moms creating these products out of need and love. Thank the other moms and use their product! There will be so much to feel guilty about as a working mom. I remember reading an article to help prepare for my second and it said if both kids are crying to help the older one first because they will remember but the baby won't. Lots of qualifications with that, of course, but the point is don't feel guilty about making good choices for your baby that save you time/energy/sanity in a particular area. If you can be more attentive or present in other meaningful ways then do that! (Also, as a mom of older kids, I promise you that you will have years of torturous lunch packing and you can put all of your accumulated guilt into those lunches 😂).

Look into baby led weaning. My daughter never ate purées. She ate what we were eating. I just never salted her food (salt is bad at that age). This actually helped me eat healthier as well She loved (still loves) roasted sweet potatoes, peas, corn, chicken, etc. She’s such a good eater now at 2yrs! And we always were able to eat together instead of one of us feeding her while the others food got cold.

We’re 6 weeks into BLW & it’s been great! Baby eats appropriate portions/versions of everything we eat.

So before I ever got pregnant, I always said I would never make my own baby food. I thought it was super new agey and I ate jarred food and came out fine. Then I realized how expensive it was. Here was my solution. Make 2-3 different purées in the blender on the weekend. Put them in ice cube trays and freeze. Each meal, pop one out, defrost (I did in the microwave) and then feed. Don’t feel guilty. You baby is getting fed. But if you really want to purée, there are easier ways

Mom guilt is unfortunately very common, I still continue to experience it on a daily basis. But as long as you are doing the best you can, you are good! Nothing wrong with store bought food if you are paying attention to the labels. Mine is about 2 right now and eats only white rice and white pasta. Everyday. Makes me feel helpless, but toddlers are toddlers. Just make sure they are getting the nutrition they need.. Whichever way possible.

Ha my kid most certainly does not get homemade purée. Who the hell has time for that

Look into baby led weaning! Game changer

like

No shame in this! I outsource the purée making to our nanny which is the only way it gets done, but even then it’s probably less than 50% of our baby’s solid diet. Pouches are often what she prefers, there’s a wider variety of ingredients that aren’t always easy to find or work with if you make from scratch, plus they are convenient when you are out of the house and they want a snack.

like

Fed is best. Just make up for the guilt over weekend by offering home made food. Otherwise whatever works.

like

I also puree over the weekend and put in the fridge /freezer.

like

Whatever works for you mama. I started with store bought pouches but it was kind of pricey and I wanted to put more green veggies in cuz my kid refuses to eat those but eats fruits like a champ, so I switched to making my own. But like others said, I batch make them. I only need to make it once every 2 wks. I use infantino squeeze pouches, and this presser thing they sell, and keep the pouches in the freezer. Not exactly environmentally friendly since they're one time use pouches but I didn't want the extra work of washing pouches.

uplifting

Maybe split the difference? Microwave a sweet potato and mash it with a fork, feed more complicated foods from a jar? One of my kids would only eat jarred baby food, the other wouldn’t touch it- she ate avocado, sweet potato, banana- real food that mashes easily. Point is: not sure that you ever have to actually purée anything as there are enough foods that are naturally soft that babies can eat

helpful

One more thing that came to mind is that you can pride yourself in the diversity of foods you can give your child if store bought, far beyond what any fully homemade diet would have!!

like

This is not what will make the difference in your child being a good human. Just stop beating yourself up and focus on what really matters - time WITH your baby

like

To save time, I would microwave the fruit or veggie in a little bit of water then throw it into the magic bullet. It’s a much easier cleanup. But like everyone said, there is no shame in buying to store bought purées. Just check the ingredients to make sure there’s not any additives.

We also did baby led weaning with some pouches for convenience, snacks, and/or if he hasn’t touched a vegetable in days. He eats a mini version of what we eat most of the time.

I do this too. Don’t feel guilty

At 6 months, you don’t need to purée food that much. If you mash the food enough between your fingers or with a fork, make a morsel and feed it, baby should be able to eat and digest easily. Moms never puréed before, they just mashed up the same food they ate with a fork or fingers.

I'm a little annoyed. there are sooo many Instagram accounts for moms-to-be, new moms but not a single account for dad-to-be or new dad's, the dad accounts I did find were all based on funny memes with kids. Not a single account with how to care for a baby or how to be a supportive pregnancy partner or parenting. This research basically started because my husband said he doesn't need to know all these things as it's a woman's role and lack of similar accounts men is proof that he doesn't need to

Would love to hear from moms whose babies went to daycare / school right after maternity leave (no nanny etc). Due in March and on the list for a stellar Montessori daycare / preschool near us to start in August (school year) when baby is 4-5 months old. Feeling guilty and struggling to decide if keeping baby home a year with a nanny is better, starting school in 2023? However, I’m worried about cost - we really would not be able to afford a nanny in our city on our salaries. Advice welcome!

I feel so bad for hearing that, and feel like a failure on all levels.

I feel like such a shitty mom. I am 40 weeks and 4 days and I have not gone into labor yet. The first time I had a C-section, so I cannot be induced for fear of uterine rupture. But if I wait too long for the onset of natural labor for my planned VbAC, then I might be risking the baby’s health. After pumping myself up fir a VbAC and studying breathing techniques and being ready to give birth, I am just at an impasse. My doc scheduled a csection for Thursday because she doesn’t want to wait
