I don't intend to be racist, but working with an all-Indian team(India born) while being non-Indian is the fucking worst. They tend to bring the hierarchy culture and unnecessarily overwork so much!

jokes apart - you will notice the long hours working culture inherent with asian way of upbringing. india, japan, china - the population to opportunities available tends you to focus on pricing best value ( not that it's always right or effective ). the other aspect of the culture is work is considered first then social life. all this adds up on asians prioritizing work over social life. you will notice that this changes as the 1st gen immigrants become second gen etc. The other big aspect is for 1st gen immigrants , losing a job in US means losing all the things they have worked hard for , so that also drives them to keep giving extra. Now having said that , most of the asian if given alternatives tend chose a better work life balance , it just takes time to adapt and embrace that culture.

I work with stupid white rednecks on my project and they work crazy hours and are total douchebags in terms of respecting women on the project.. So it is just not with Indians.. You can have such situations anywhere.. OP needs to deal with it instead of whining.. Otherwise Indians are going to eat you up my friend.. They are really competitive.. So either you start doing something about it or make sure you buy some napkins to wipe your tears... Btw I am not an Indian but I have worked with Indians for quite sometime..

Note: It's been 2 years in consulting and I have 3 teams of this experience, so can't say it's like that always.

like

Just my own experience, but I've been on teams with a lot of Indians in the past and my work hours were pretty normal and the culture was laid back. Just depends I guess?

like

Agreed. I am South Asian and had a hierarchical Director on my last project. It was awful.

What's the big deal? Anyone who's remotely successful Indian or not knows as long as your shit gets done who gives af. Besides the brash hardass ones (like assholes from any country) are their own worst enemies, if you don't like them there's a good chance your client doesn't.

Hit or miss. I'm an American born brown dude and i generally really dislike my interactions with fresh of the boaters because they have their mix of inferiority and superiority complex with other brown dudes while I see them being normal with non brown dudes. I will say that The 1st gen American-brown people are really good overall people. I'm sure there's exceptions but I went to college with a lot of asians and I didn't see that exception.

I'm a US born Indian and I can't handle more than 2 of us per team of 5. The lack of comprehension and douchery with the freshies that just came a year ago is annoying af. Sorry not sorry.

As an Indian I agree. All Indian teams get messy. Esp Indians trying to get promoted. But then I am extremely lazy so I avoid work as much as possible. Bench it out 3-4 months a year and work with people and partners that like me.

This has nothing to do with race or national origin. Hierarchical thinking, disrespect for women, retaliatory behavior against challenging scope creep and excessive extra work hours, etc... all that is neutral to where themen or women come from.

As a white woman, I find that most Indian men (from India) are intimidated by me and are smart enough not to treat me like they might treat a woman from India. The obnoxious ones are all talk so just stand up for yourself and you're golden. I've observed a huge difference between the way Indian men treat me vs. an Indian woman and I always feel really bad for them because they always just take it.

I agree with the job security thing and the long hours. I understand and don't care now. I have worked with off shore team with no intention of staying in the US. And they don't work long hours in general. But still, can never justify the hierarchy.

Dude there is a reason why there are so many of us in this country- we get Shit done ✅ so either save make yourself more relevant or keep whining like a old white granny
