When I was in Italy they taught us, “you must love yourself enough to cook good food.” I bet there are many things in Consulting you didn’t know how to do two years ago that you’re now great at. Take some time to learn a few recipes on the weekends Grab a crock pot cook book as a start and try one recipe a week. Buy whatever spices you need gradually from trying new recipes. Delivery and prepared meal services are loaded with too much salt/preservatives. Save yourself from health problems later

If you want to start meal prepping, go to Costco and get like 3 whole roast chickens. Cut off the breast and dark meat, and strip the skin. Eat one piece of dark meat and a piece of white meat of equal size for lunch and dinner. 3 chickens should last you about 6 days. At 5 bucks a chicken, it’s the most bang for your buck.

While you’re there pick up a bag of Brussels sprouts, carrot sticks, and any other dense fibrous vegetables. Drizzle with olive oil and a little garlic and roast in the oven.

If you want to go a little extra, take the bones of the chicken and boil with carrots and celery. Decent soup stock you can make any soup out of. I usually just add green beans, other veggies and some kind of whole grain pasta or barley.

I bought pre marinated chicken breasts from a supermarket and pan fry one for lunch. That’s all so far

EY1, you can buy crock pots with timers that will switch to a "warm" setting after it completes

I like the idea of cooking for myself when I'm on a remote project or the bench, but no idea where to start.

Re: crock pots, how do you leave something going in the morning with our schedules? Knowing my luck I'll start something with the aim of taking it off when I get home but will end up staying crazy late

i used galley sometimes when i lived in dc. you just have to stick it in the oven for like 15 min and it’s ready. no prep required. very tasty. portions not too small, but not super big either.

Snap kitchen closed in Chicago now; try meez meals or Seattle Sutton delivery

Why I love gardening & houseplants… I brought this fatsia japonica in for the winter in early Nov. It looked like it was fully dead for about a month. Each time I saw it I thought about where it would be better in terms of sun & resisted the urge to water it. Then last weekend my partner found some macramé & I was showing him how it works when we had an idea. We hung the plant and suddenly it has perked back up. I’m not even sure I’ll put it back in the landscape in the spring I love it so much!

What are some easy to make, low stress holiday meals for a school holiday staff party? I was "volunteered" by our principal to set it up this year (🙄). I'm making decorated sugar cookies but kind of drawing a blank when it comes to savory dishes. Bonus points if you have any adult holiday themed games or fun drinks to suggest! It's off school property and there will be a bar (thank god), for context.

And down goes another one. Have really enjoyed this bottle, got it during our anniversary trip in Charleston last year. A bit overpriced at $91, but that is partially due to the scarcity of the Jimmy Red strain of corn it is distilled from. It is a bit hot on the nose, but smooth on the palate and has a subtle peppery finish.
