I am not the biggest fan of the Google suite of products and software. Sheets works OK, but Excel is more fully featured. Some of the data analysis and graphical features in Excel are not available in Sheets. I recently retired from a district that went 1:1 utilizing Chromebooks. Sure, it's an economical way to get quasi-computers in kids' hands, but it limits them to only Google online software. A real computer provides Google stuff as well as other options.
What's interesting to me over the past few months is that when I talk to many recent high school graduates I've been informed that they use either PCs or Macs with Office software in college and that they were "sold a system" that is not real world.
I am not a big fan of Microsoft online software either. Just don't appreciate the data mining that goes on with online software. I understand that I am a dinosaur, but I've had respected IT staffers admit that the cheap online software providers make big bucks selling personal data. Wonder if buying a Chromebook for home use/match what's used at school is wise?
