Accounting

I don’t know what to go into. I’m a May 2019 graduate and I work as a bookkeeper and payroll manager for 2+ years. I want to go into big 4 or maybe rsm/gt. But don’t know what field. Tax isn’t my favorite and I don’t want to travel for audit. Any input on what I should do? And should i apply as an intern?

Not all auditors travel. I'm in the office or wfh 95% of the time. It does depend on industry. I do real estate. I've heard of Insurance and financial services also working from the office 95% of the time

Same, I’ve been in audit for years and I can count on one hand the amount of weeks I have had to travel to a client.

I’ve worked for EY for four years now in audit and have never really had to travel. Two weeks out of the year for training (if you work in a big city then training is usually local). I’ve only had two clients that were out of town where I had to travel a week or so here and there. You can travel back to your home city on the weekends

Travel in audit varies greatly by office and industry. Different thought, it is difficult to make a transition from industry to Big 4. Do you have an friends or recruiters that you know personally?

If you can get in. Suck up traveling for two years. You wouldn’t regret it now but you’ll regret it later when you don’t have as many job opportunities due to lack of big4.

Can work in fsg in some companies and (likelier with mid-size) with minimal/ no travel. Ask if it's an option in networking with firms near you!

I remember being so stressed during undergrad recruiting because I knew I wanted to work in my home city. I went to school out of state, so offices in those cities were recruiting me. PwC worked out, but I ended up going to grad school in my home city and would have had plenty of opportunities that way. I would talk to recruiters and see what travel for audit in that office looks like. Some people end up on one local client for the majority of the year and do minimal travel.

When you say tax isn't your favorite. Do you mean doing tax returns? because at larger firms there are a bunch of different services under the tax umbrella that don't specifically involve filing returns.

Left B4 to join boutique shop & struggling with sales. Even contacts I've known for decades who trust me are hesitant about bringing a new firm in. With new accounts B4 biz card used to get meetings easily now I struggle to get into places I previously would have gotten in with one email. Any advice on how to build business with a firm that is not well known? I will add that once we are in, we do very well because the firm does very strong work and is loved by clients.
