I bought my first Porsche 18 years ago. At the time, it was a bit of a stretch but not unreasonable. It’s been paid off for more than a decade now.

If I’d waited till I had a million dollar net worth, I still wouldn’t have that car. I wouldn’t have the memories of carving up the tail of the dragon with the top down, or taking my wife on our first date in that car. Those memories are far more valuable to me than the incremental money I’d have made on investing the cash.

You only live once. There’s a huge difference between being frivolous and spending a bit of what you earn responsibly enjoying life.

P1, damn those air cooled porsches are a pretty penny nowadays. Lol good investment. Do you know what it’s worth now?

I want the Ford Bronco so bad, but I’ve got a 2013 Altima with 58k miles on it. Gonna drive that baby into the ground then buy a used Bronco

As a side note, what do you recommend for someone saving for a home? I invested 12k this year that was just sitting in my savings making no money. Turned it into 18k as of Friday.

But I need money on hand to buy a home. Been putting away 2.5-3k each month, but also don’t wanna miss out on more investments

Also using about 10k to travel like a wild man next year when things return to normal

I don’t believe into shaming people for what they buy. You work for your $, buy whatever you can *afford*, and no, you don’t need to be a millionaire to get a new car nor a “nice” car. Invest, save but also enjoy your $ and spend on whatever it is that brings you joy, our time on earth is limited.

OP made some good points. for those that are looking to build wealth in a disciplined way, those are good guidelines. However, each person’s situation and definition of happiness is different, so it’s not one size fits all. The key message here is to not live beyond your means, don’t need to always try to keep up with the Jones. Maintaining a good balance between enjoying life now and planning for your future financial well-being is important.

nice doing well pal. enjoy!

I have a net worth far north of $1M and currently 23 years old. Even now I wouldn’t buy a car more expensive than $20-25k. I’m guessing a $50k by the time I hit $5M in few years.

I’m having a really bad time at KPMG for the last 3 years (currently an S2 and received a nice salary bump and raise). I am sick of the external audits and general high pressure work environment. I have been in touch with ex-KPMG colleagues who have left for Protiviti. They claim they have never worked more than a 45 hour week (which are rare). I applied, and it seems that they are able to match my current KPMG salary and have similar bonuses. Am I making a mistake by transferring firms?

1. Stop applying to every job you see that “looks like a good fit.”

2. Get 💯 clarity on the work that excites you, personal growth goals, and relationships you want.

Two is the hard work, but it's the foundation of every meaningful career decision you will ever make.

Without clarity, you'll never be aligned with any role, company, or industry.

And misalignment is why you’re getting rejection emails.
