I have come to the realization (mid-30s) that very few people have jobs they love and that it was a particular lie that we were told to do something we are passionate about as children.
Instead, I think it’s fair and mature to find a job that provides you satisfaction, fulfillment, and financial security. This does not mean I say “I love my job”. I do not hate it. I enjoy the people I work with, I like that there is clear growth trajectory, that I am challenged, and that I am respected. But it’s also a job. This job has also afforded me financial stability which is huge. I also feel this job has afforded me the ability to be involved in causes or “hobbies” that interest me. That said, if my job was toxic or I was overworked I would find something else.
If I was only going to do something I was passionate about I would’ve done something in the arts and would be riddled with anxiety about my financial security.
Same. I was not built to be a starving artist. I drink sparkling water several times a day and get snacks from Whole Foods. That life wasn’t for me.
Same here!
I’m hoping it’ll help. Because I can’t buy them things forever 😂
