Hey there, I know it gets super hard. But think of it this way, you made it through law school and started your career, and you can do this. Have you talked to someone, like a professional, or maybe seen about changing up your medication?

like

We went through law school and the freaking bar exam. You can do this job. The reality is that this job isn’t all that enjoyable and out ADHD brain really can’t stand it. Find a law job you don’t absolutely hate 9-5 and then enjoy your free time later. Or any other job. WLB is key.

like

That is a good point! There is no need to stick to a job that you hate for the rest of your life. There are many jobs out there that will pay well and are still enjoyable.

I had been in this frame of mind for as long as I can remember. But one day something came to me and made me realize that my adhd wasn't the only one hindering me from doing my job well, it was me self-destructing my own capabilities.

like

What are some examples of you self-destructing your own capabilities? Were you able to overcome this?

There are plenty of Fishies here who could prove you wrong in this bowl alone. You made it through far enough, I'm sure you could squeeze some more dedication out of you. You've got this!

It's a blessing and a curse, remember that. Maybe we have a harder time sitting in a chair for 5 hours, but we can also get stuff done in a pinch when others are sweating and are more creative. Find the coping solution that works for you - whether its exercise, therapy, or a combination of methods - and don't get down on yourself!

I know lots of attorneys with ADHD who felt the same way and then got put on meds and have been fine since. Are you on meds? If tnot that may be a good place to start.

I think there's this myth that therapists have all their own sh*t figured out, and for me at least I know that's far from true (hopefully it isn't just me). On the contrary, I think we should be leading by example!

Tired of my pharmacy. Every single month I have to call the pharmacy for my Adderall, they say they don’t have any prescriptions for me, they ask for additional information, they magically find it, and then I have to wait like 1 to 8 hours to have it filled. It’s a pointless phone call. Why do I have to repeat these shenanigans every month?! Is it just Rite Aid? Is CVS any better? So irritating.

How do you approach the initial conversation with your doctor? I have taken a variety of both anti anxiety and anti depressants. Nothing works. I’ve been reading online and in this bowl, and a lot of ADHD symptoms really resonate with me. They have for a long time, frankly, but I couldn’t get my former provider to take me seriously when I was in college/law school. I’m hoping the context of being out of school helps, but I just want to make sure I maximize my odds of getting help (cont)

I have ADHD and it is affecting my family life. I forget commitments I make to my wife literally SECONDS after making them, and it is so defeating to be so consistently unreliable. At work I have enough systems set up to help me keep up with my deadlines etc, but struggle to find solutions for home life. Any tips? I am not medicated yet, but am not against starting. I just don’t know if it helps throughout the day or only for a few hours. TIA 😭

I just saw an ad for an app called inflow that’s supposed to help manage adhd and create strategies to address things like putting off and staying on task. It’s $22 a month which is cheaper than a coach but more expensive than a planner. Odds that it will actually help vs. being another recurring charge that I keep putting off canceling because of my executive dysfunction?

My doctor has left the practice and replacement asshole with a Ph.d says I need a new sleep study and won’t prescribe my prescription until I have it done. This is an interesting article on ADHD and executive function disorder that might be helpful to others: https://healthyadhd.com/adhd-executive-function/

My son now struggles with ADHD as well (of course) and I am digging deeper for his sake to figure out how to help little ones too young for medication. Knowing I was able to become an attorney even though I wasn’t diagnosed until the summer between my junior and senior years in college gives me hope we can tackle this earlier for him and have him see success for himself.

the pathway to licensure has broken me: mind, body, and spirit.

i am a poor test taker, and was diagnosed after failing the bar. i developed so many coping mechanisms to get this far undiagnosed. no wonder i have not been able to demonstrate my skills on the bar.

i moved states because abortion rights were not available in my state. i will probably lose my job because i failed again. idk where to go from here. all i know is that i don't want to keep living as a shell of my former self.
