I’m at the point where I’m flat-out telling young women in my family, who are curious about maybe working in advertising themselves because they are intrigued about my world, to choose any other career on the planet, and to stay massively clear of ad agencies in particular. I can’t counsel people I love, who I know are planning on having families of their own, to bang their heads against the wall of this industry.
I feel the same way. I was asked to speak at an ad club at my alma mater and I’m considering presenting one slide that says “run”.
Marketing side in tech :)
In-house for sure. I very rarely work more than 40 hrs a week. Very few crazy/unhinged ppl. Good pay and benefits. It’s honestly where the ppl who don’t want to make advertising their life anymore go.
Good to hear some positive reports. I’m in the same boat. So terribly-over the business. Not sure at this point if client side would be enough to save me. But no doubt the eons of constant swearshoppery and chaos has left a very bad taste in my mouth.
Just finding this post and so happy to see the reaponses
FREELANCE! Just started in Aug 2021 and making more $$ than I did at my agency
In-house for sure! Tons of opps for CWs.
Content strategy director brand side. Lots of ad people get out. You got this
Thank you all so much 💗
I wish I knew
So many in house CW roles! All of the brand team where I am tech start up came from agencies. You got this!!
I started out agency side, copywriter. Then in-house, marketing comms. Back to agency, writing and account service. Freelance copywriter. Then in house content marketing. Definitely agree with transition to in house - comms or content marketing should be good shifts. It is a different animal, but skills are 100% transferable, in my experience.
There are also tons of content marketing/content strategy opportunities in B2B if you want to get nichey.
Anyone have any job leads in this direction. Bc this lady is looking too 🙋♀️
