I don't understand all the discourse about firms and Juneteenth. The understanding at my firm is if it's a holiday take off unless you have work to do. I'm not sure there's any holiday that I actually "get off" if my workload doesn't permit it.

I appreciate the grim irony of being forced against my will to work on a holiday celebrating the end of involuntary servitude.

likefunny

Very clearly tongue-in-cheek - OP, eat a snickers.

It’s just that it’s a new holiday and people (rightfully so) are more sensitive to how it’s treated and respected. No one would bat an eye if they had to work on Easter. But I don’t necessarily disagree because Juneteenth should at least be respected as a newly established and meaningful holiday.

Fair enough

So in that way Juneteenth is just like every other holiday. Take it off.... unless you can't.

Yep

Exactly. Same rules as any other holiday. If you look at firm hours they drop way below a typical monday. But in line with like... Labor Day.

Quitting before finalizing offers?

I’m at post onsite and negotiation stage at a couple places but it may take another month or 2 due to either hiring freezes or general slow processes.

I want to quit now to go on vacations that I held off during prep. Does it make much difference when I negotiate offers? Like if my upcoming unvested RSU would be (partially) matched, and they find out I quit somehow, is it no longer matched? Other potential snags?

Already burned most of my PTO interviewing.

How much should I charge a friend to watch 4 dogs at their home over Christmas weekend (2 nights)? The dogs don't have any special needs or medications. I've dog sat for other people in the past but always for free. I also have had dogs of my own for most of my life. I want to start charging people for my services but also want to be reasonable since this is a friend and don't plan to charge a holiday fee. We live in St. Louis. Would $40 per day/night be reasonable?

Do you fly out to family for the holidays or do they come to you? We're hosting Christmas for the first time and having the entire family come to town for it. What are some can't miss holiday events in the city? Ideally accessible because my father is in a wheelchair.

I’m feeling a little suffocated with the standard two weeks with all my family events this year.

Since we're headed towards cold weather and the holiday season, let's talk about how we can take care of ourselves during the fall/winter and beyond. For example, I'm buying a sun lamp because it's about to be 50 degrees and raining for 6 months 🤦🏻‍♀️.

I have 5 YOE in full desk Recruitment. I’m currently based out of Toronto,Canada. I’m getting $57/yr and some bonus. It’s an RPO. There’s unlimited PTO and the role is remote. Curious to see what my fellow Recruiters from Canada are making. Would love some insights from our US folks as well.

Tell me if this is selfish or not. I adore my family, but since they're doing a very lowkey Christmas situation this year, I really would rather take a weeks vacation on my own. Obviously the holidays are about spending time with those you love, but I'm tired! And I see my entire family at least once a month for a group dinner. Am I a bad daughter/sister if I choose vacation this one time?
