How can you not crave some client value creation on Saturday and Sunday?
Not if you're politically smart
Consulting is about working smart not hard - if you can't figure that out - why would the client listen to you
Even if it's not heads down working 60-80 hours ... We still have completely unpredictable schedules day to day. Let us vent!
Y'all exaggerate SO much. Read the NYT article on the fabricated 80 hr work weeks.
Lol. People who have work tend to bitch more. I would say 15% of anyone at a consulting firm would have work over thanksgiving. Also Accenture and McKinsey tend to be more workaholic cultures while the rest may be leaning towards work life balance
Some of it's just funny/exaggeration. But I've never known a single consultant who checks in around 9 and signs off at 5 every single day. Realize that's a reality for many blue/white collar... So ya, we can whine
^^currently working legit 9 to 5 and it's amazing. Obviously will have busy times but it's not hard to set your own hours.
Actually McKinsey people are generally pretty focused on lifestyle. Weekends are generally no-no's and I'm definitely not a workaholic. I've done 10 hours of weekend work in total over 20 months at the firm.
^Damn man that's The job I want. #1 and good work life balance
Wanna trade jobs?
It's called have a shred of respect and turn down shitty churn projects that work you to death.
Consulting in general has a workaholic cultures - 60 h/week is minimum to say the least
^that is not something to be proud of either - you live just once - so live it (your minimal time on earth)
