Despite being one of the most senior people in the room, I was still asked by (Boomer) partner to take meeting notes, because...you know... I was the only one with XX chromosome structure there.
I do have to say that since exiting consulting and re-entering industry, I see a lot less of this nonsense.
I see it happening every single day. And it’s exhausting. To the point that I’m considering getting out of the workforce.
Just last week the guys of my team got together to party. I wasn’t invited and only the partner called to ask why I couldn’t make it. So guys my level got precious leadership time and I didn’t and it bothered just one person.
Just putting it out there… if you want a guys night out, go hang with your friends.
In a work environment, that’s not appropriate. In the same way that a girls night out wouldn’t be appropriate, or a white-only night out, or an Indian-only night out.
Yeah it’s rough out here. It’s definitely not just in consulting though. I’ve worked in a few different sectors and am always dealing with the same issues (sexual harassment, having to negotiate harder for equal pay, etc). The patriarchy is everywhere :’)
I don’t understand the question
What should be the solution to this issue? I am sure if we put our minds together we can figure out a way.
The solution is be better. Either get to the top of your current company or start your own and fly. I see so much potential for a company that doesnt put stumbling blocks in front of half their employees.
