For some of us, focus comes from writing things down with pen and paper, based on how we learnt during our childhood. As a former mathematician, pen and paper were my constant companions for a big chunk of my life.
Even on a call where I sit on my desk, I'm more comfortable with sticking with pen and paper. Definitely absorb better. Worst case scenario another analyst has types up notes and we cross reference to see if we missed stuff
I can't understand the calculation one given excel but sometimes I use sticky notes on my phone or below my monitor as reminders. This maybe different
Pen and paper for quick notes- the notebook I keep on my desk full of immediate useful things is much faster to flick through than making sure i always have a document open & available on my computer.
Plus if you're typing then the person you're speaking with can hear that you're taking notes. Most of the time that's okay, sometimes not
