I don't understand when people got promoted to C from BTA feel SO HAPPY... it's not performance based promotion. As long as you don't screw up the firm, you are "promoted"it's merely a title change

You must be great at dinner parties

like

Don't be a douche. They're 24 and it's their first promotion

like

"Why do you all have birthday parties? All you did was not screw up when your mom pushed you out"

like

OP, that's a lot of things in life. Universities still have big graduation celebrations even though all the students did was go to class and not screw up too poorly

like

One of the sanest, surest, and most generous joys of life comes from being happy over the good fortune of others

That basically describes every promotion til PPD

like

Be generous with your joy, for joy will be generous to you.

like

Yea pretty sure all your friends graduated from college with you. Did you belittle their happiness on graduation day too?

like

I feel like it's all about perspective though. It may not be a big deal to you, but others who treat it as a big deal are ultimately happier in life and more proud of their accomplishments

like

If you can't enjoy your road to success, then it takes away the fun. It's important to be proud of your life's staples. Otherwise, what's the point?

like

D1 was actually trying to figure that out too

like

I agree. Low happiness level is good for life. Good for people treat small achievements as big deal.

like

All great points!

like

EY2-sorry I never had birthday party. Don't have biological parent growing up in poor town. In my life there isn't much celebration ever so I am pretty numb about the happiness piece.

like

OP I've always had the same sentiment, didn't understand people being proud of things like passing an exam or graduating and posting "I DID IT!" when it wasn't that difficult lol. (I did keep this to myself to not ruin everyone else's mood) But I agree, people who get excited over small things are generally happier and more appreciative of what they have. It's just not me unfortunately.

like

Nothing wrong with an extra celebration. You could say the same about your birthday. All you did was live another year

like

D1-how so?

like

At least I am not excited on my graduation and no family attended. Even 4.0 gpa highest distinction from top 10 university. Everyone made it, I was just one of them. Nothing special. It's really about viewing achievements I guess. There are a million folks doing so much better in the world that deserved a true celebration. Just like our new PPMDs. A BTA may work 60 hours a week on average but a PPMD may work 100 hours a week and they deserved the true celebration. I am not saying others shouldn't be celebrating. As said in post I just don't get it when they are SO happy. You can be happy for sure, but posting everywhere to brag about on social media is excessive.

SC2- I am with you. 😂 high-five

Genuine question: What are the most common exit options at Google BizOps? (1) For internal transfer to PM, those teams seem to prefer to hire Google engineers. (4) For leaving Google, I don’t know where people usually go… Please share your thoughts / correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks!

As someone who has only worked at EY and has no other work experience or “passion,” how do I begin looking? I’m a high performer in CA with a cpa and working in tax but I don’t feel like I have enough time for myself with all the extra work from people leaving during the never ending busy seasons. I’m in my mid twenties and feel like work is my life. I think I’ll be satisfied with six figures for a while, which I’d be pretty close to after my raise in October anyways, and 40 hour work weeks.

Me and my wife moved to US in the last few years and recently had a baby. Both of us work in relatively stressful jobs. I am having conflicts with her on how to raise kids - my wife and mil don’t see daycare or nanny as viable options, and want to rely on grandparents from both sides to help with the same. They haven’t seen too many cases of children going to daycare in India in their family. Who else has faced this issue, and any thoughts on resolving the same? This is causing a strain b/w us.
