I don’t want to workout anymore. I just want to eat delicious food and watch tv and grow fat. I put so much pressure on myself all the time to go to the gym. I’m not losing weight either. I wish I could be okay with this. Do any of you feel this way? How do you deal with it?

Yup. I put so much pressure on myself to lose weight and look good that I developed an eating disorder and body dysmorphia. I would look in the mirror and see an overweight woman despite me being well into the “normal” weight for my height and I developed a very unhealthy relationship with food. I’m about 2 weeks clean from my eating disorder but it’s not easy. I tell all my friends trying to lose weight to just have fun with it because I don’t want them to go through what I went through. Take it easy on yourself. As long as you’re healthy, you are fine. Enjoy and have a healthy relationship with food and working out. Don’t force it if you really don’t want to workout one day. If you get the energy and motivation to go, then go and make it fun! I’m still working on this but we’re only on this earth for a short time. We can’t spend it worrying about calories and macros. You got this! Also, if you are working out and not losing weight could there be an underlying health condition causing that? Or maybe you’re not giving yourself enough rest in between workouts. Try changing up your workouts and meal plans to see if you notice any changes but normally when I start back up with losing weight, I gain a pound during the first few weeks despite me doing everything right. Then, the weight starts falling off

A few things here because I have totally been there: (1) working out does NOT have to happen at a gym if it’s not something you enjoy! In fact, cardio machines and lifting weights actually burn fewer calories (and increase your appetite) than a long walk or light jog. I would seriously try out just walking for 45-60 minutes a day; you can multitask, talk on the phone, and it doesn’t feel like you’re losing your life to do it. (2) I don’t know your situation, but if you are exercising well and eating right…are you sure you need to lose weight? This may be where your body is happiest, and in my experience going any lower than that just leads to frustration when trying to maintain it! But if you do need to lose weight…. (3) Losing weight is uncomfortable. Sorry to people who truly think that eating intuitively will lead to your goal weight, but unless you’re extremely unhealthy today (which it sounds like you’re not), you’re going to be a bit uncomfortable in your first few weeks. If this is your real goal, I would start researching the least painful ways to get into a calorie deficit. For me, this is intermittent fasting (all the hunger happens at once) and jogging (an appetite-suppressing activity). There’s a good chance the workouts you’re doing are increasing your appetite without burning enough calories to do so. I hope this helps!!

I feel that! There's a few things that have helped me push through. - I'm not going to the gym to lose weight, I'm going there to improve my cardiovascular health and get more muscles - weight loss is mostly diet, so I'm just focusing on eating around 1700 calories/day (below my maintenance but still a healthy level) and eating really good protein. - i still eat ice cream and all the foods i want almost daily, but i eat smaller portions (so half a bowl instead of a full bowl) - muscle burns more calories than fat does, so the more muscle i get, the more calories I'll burn I'm not focused on the number though, I'm focused on how my clothes feel and how i look! Because of the way I'm doing it though, it'll be a slow journey but I'm hoping to make it super sustainable for me in the long term If this doesn't work for me, I'm going to see a registered dietitian and work with a trainer once or twice a week. No shame in asking for help

I love intermittent fasting and it works very well for me!

Maybe working out for you is less about the weight you lose and more about staying active and having a routine. It doesn’t always have to be about the weight loss.

I’m at this point. I actually decided I was done with working out and then the very next day I went to the gym at 6am, but it’s because I genuinely wanted to. Today I didn’t go and that’s ok too. I’m Over working out for weight loss. It’s not fun for me lol. I’d rather just focus on eating healthy whole Foods in moderation bc my issue is portion control, not the actual food.

Eating is where you get weight loss, not working out. So this is a better approach.

like

Yup!🙋🏽‍♀️ I like being healthy and active but this rat race of losing weight and going to the gym kills my soul. I stopped a while ago. I just can’t live in this cycle of enjoying foods and feeling guilty after. Now I try to make healthy choices as best as I can, keep my body moving so it doesn’t get unhealthy and enjoy fine foods.

like

I feel this a lot. I really should see a nutritionist. One reason is because no matter what I do I don't lose weight. People in the comments saying thet eat half a bowl of ice cream...I eat no ice cream (maybe once a year... Maybe) and I still GAIN weight. Like 5-10 pounds in a week (period week). Then lose it and then gain it with no change in diet. I eat the same thing every week (salmon cauliflower rice and broccoli, grilled chicken and veggies, turkey tacos, etc), all pretty healthy. Thyroid has been tested... Fine. It is absolutely infuriating!!! According to tracking calorie deficit doesn't matter... Nothing.

like

Gaining (or losing) 5-10 lbs in a week is absolutely not normal. I don’t have any advice for you here, and it sounds like you have seen doctors and they don’t know, either. Maybe you retain a lot of water weight? 🤷‍♀️

I read once “If you have to take extreme measures to remain at the size you are, you aren’t meant to be that size”. Shifting focus towards being and staying healthy vs my weight/pant size helped my mental health tremendously.

I just eat what I want and I get fat and then I eat less of what I want and then I get normal. Life is too short for me to not enjoy food, I just wanna live freely.

Congratulations! Making that choice can be freeing. If you Google intuitive eating you can find great resources (podcasts, Instagram, etc.). I like “theantidietplan” and “Julienergynutritoon”. The basic premise of intuitive eating is listen to your body. Eat what your craving, eat what you want to eat, but stop when you feel signs of fullness so you don’t overeat and feel terrible later. It’s all about honoring your body so you move to feel good NOT to lose weight. It also sounds like you may be a bit burnt out. What reset for me was just getting outside and walking. The movement just to get my blood flowing and loosen up my joints from sitting all day made me feel way better! It was also better for me mentally because I was doing it to feel well not to lose weight so I looked forward to it. Best of luck on your journey!

Working out isn't usually that effective for weight loss actually. It IS good for making you stronger, keeping depression and anxiety at bay, improving your sleep, giving you more energy, etc. Could you pair a newfound sense of body acceptance with your workouts instead? Maybe this means you switch do a different activity you enjoy more and have absolutely no expectations for it other than improving your emotional state, then afterwards you sit on the couch and accept your body for whatever it looks like?

like

Working out is more about releasing endorphins and maintaining my mental health than physical health. I am prone to depression and working out is one of the main things that keeps at bay. I do work outs that I find fun though. I put on loud music and have a dance party. I meet friends for yoga, Pilates, or a hike. I eat healthy for the same reason too. I just genuinely feel better afterwards. Not to say I never eat whatever I want, but it’s a conscious decision to indulge.

like

It’s all about your mindset. Don’t make weight loss your motivation, make wanting to FEEL stronger and less fatigued and more productive your motivation. Sometimes it’s not even about the MOTIVATION to go, it’s the discipline. Eat intuitively, trust your body. If you crave something, eat a bit of what you crave. Don’t deny your body!

Also, don’t focus on the weight on the scale. Take progress pics. Muscle mass tends to be heavier than fat.

I go to the gym almost every day for releasing pressure in life and some fun. I eat healthy six days a week and eat whatever I want one day a week to lose weight. Do not mix the two.

You can still eat delicious foods, watch TV, and not become fat. You may not be as skinny as you are currently but for me it's an appropriate trade off... I still exercise but it's not the end all be all for me. Gotta live life and delicious food is probably one of my favorite things about living!

I feel you. Try to change your perspective on why you exercise. I would be lying if I say I am not exercising to lose wait but only recently I saw an image of the skeletal muscle of 2 71 yo people , one was coach potato and the other one was a runner. And that image really made an impact on me. Muscle density of the coach potato was non existant and was replaced by fat. That’s my why! Also try to find exercises that you enjoy and give yourself some time.

Top and bottom healthy dark area is muscle . Middle one doesn’t have much dark muscle density because it atrophied and replaced with fat. No muscle means not much protection and range of motion easier to fall. Lower metabolism. More fat is more fat soluble toxins……. Or the top ones are just breasts with weird nipples 😂

I did stomach and thighs. I recommend stomach but not thighs. Didn’t take as much as I would’ve liked. 100% would’ve done it again. 6k for both in AL

If we’re being honest, I started to go to the gym to meet men. And while I’m there I get my workout in. I’ve always liked the 5am crowd…usually means they have busy lives, dedicated, and take care of themselves. All good things.
