$1650 seems quite reasonable to me. But it really depends on the average for your area, and what your goals are. Where I am in NJ, that's about what I would spend for an updated 1BD/1Bath with washer/dryer in unit and dishwasher off street parking and a decent location. As well as some amenities like gym or pool onsite (which would probably be extra). If I lived in JC, near NYC, that would probably be a place with rodent issues and a hike from the train station or bus stop. If you have aggressive savings goals, then rent is always a place you can shave off a lot to save more, as long as you aren't already skimping.

When I was making $103k, I was paying $2100 including parking so 1650 seems very reasonable.

Think of it this way. Most professionals in various industries in LCOL cities make way less, think $45k. The average rent in these areas it’s $1000 a month for standard to low end housing. I think you’ll be fine at 6 figures and $1650.

like

Agreed. It seems reasonable.

Reasonable to spend. I think spending 20% of salary on housing is a pretty good percentage to shoot for and you're below that.

Questions like this are so hard to answer with limited info. What do you value? Make a budget and find those numbers , then you can easily answer for yourself. For me I don’t own a car or insurance , so I’m fine with paying for rent to walk.

The people on this thread saying “no” or “it depends” ……… smh. Stop it. That’s more than enough.

New to investing, but want to make sure I'm doing this correctly. I've maxed out my 401K and am looking to open an IRA. I know everyone recommends backdooring this into a Roth IRA, but if my plan is to move/retire to a state with no state income tax, wouldn't traditional make more sense? Or am I overthinking this? Also, if I go the backdoor route, how do I make sure I don't get taxed again, when i convert to a Roth? Thanks in advance!

What are your success stories about succession planning? I was hired as a lateral to work on/help sustain a retiring partner's book of business. During my interview in 2017, he said his target retirement would be 2019-2021. Now, after a good 2020 (for our practice area), he mused that he might not retire until 2025. I don't want him to feel pushed out, and have a lot to learn from him, but I do want to help/plan handoff of work. Interested in guidance for how to have these conversations!
