I ended up in a heated discussion about something work related with a director and I did not let my guard down and made my points clear. I feel like he now has a grudge against me.

Sounds like a healthy debate. Go back to your director and ask for feedback. Their comments will confirm whether you’re in the dog house

As long as it was a disagreement in good faith and you backed up your points, I’m tempted to say that your director is just being a douche

You feel like or actually see something that changed. Most Directors think proper challenge is good.

Do you think social work is a thankless job? Obviously your main goal in the job shouldn't be to gain acknowledgement, but is it wrong to feel discouraged after years of work to get not even a thank you from a client or from my boss? Just frustrated that I have to always be my own cheerleader.

What are some easy to make, low stress holiday meals for a school holiday staff party? I was "volunteered" by our principal to set it up this year (🙄). I'm making decorated sugar cookies but kind of drawing a blank when it comes to savory dishes. Bonus points if you have any adult holiday themed games or fun drinks to suggest! It's off school property and there will be a bar (thank god), for context.

My partner of 5 years ended our relationship last night. I’m shattered and feel absolutely sick, and I know the healing isn’t going to be easy. We were on the verge of an engagement and I was ready to spend the rest of my life with him.

I don’t know how to approach work during this time. I think I can get by, but I’m definitely not 100%. Should I talk to my boss about it? My team is close-knit and comfortable around each other, but I don’t know if it’s “appropriate.” What would you do?

I landed a new role a couple of months ago. I feel like I'm doing okay workwise, but I'm the only woman at my firm and the lack of real social connection is wearing on me. The men are nice enough, but I never feel like I'm actually part of the team or can connect with anyone there. Any advice?

Has anyone successfully negotiated a title? I was looking for Senior Manager positions but applied for some Mgr positions too. I’m up for promo next year at my current job as well. The current industry offer meets my comp expectation but planning to see if they would bring me in as a senior manager. There isn’t a set hierarchy for the team as of right now as they are building the team and I’d be reporting to a senior executive. Any talking points/tips that might help me negotiate?

I have a manager that does not seem to understand mental illnesses, disorders, etc. He thinks I am making excuses rather than trying to explain things (I have diagnosed ADHD, anxiety, and depression) and I’m trying to take ownership for issues but also help him understand what I am describing better as well. We are sitting down for a conversation later this week. Any advice on how to gently educate or help with his understanding of neurodivergence and other mental health considerations?

Looking for a monthly parking pass around the fulton river west area (near the Jewel on Des Plaines). If anyone knows of a place that has availability or aren’t using their pass that I can rent, let me know!

I know it’s a risk to try to “time” the market. However, I have a quick question. Under the current market should I just wait if I could only afford around a 5% down payment in my area? Income-wise I’m good, just don’t have too much cash on hand currently. Would I be better off renting another year? (Despite paying hundreds more potentially) and saving up with my SO a juicy amount for down payment?

I realized a slow pace at work is really bad for me. A couple years ago I was experiencing burn out from my fast paced job supporting transactions, and believed by moving to a slower job in a lower cost area, I would be sailing off to the sunset. Wrong, I spend weeks following up with other teams, often times they forgot what we discussed, so I spent 50% if the time reminding them of the topics and next steps. I spend most of my time writing memos no one will read.
