I feel completely lost at work. I started at a new company 1 month ago and got put on a client that’s just as confused as I am. I’m only associate level (with a little experience from my last firm) but I feel like I’m “in charge” of this audit. I feel like nothing on the audit has been done and I’m soooo nervous for manager review. Wtf do I do?! I’m so overwhelmed.

Get ahead of the issue and arrange a status call with your manager to explain where you feel lost.

@author. Most likely if your manager or senior make you feel like you are bothering her than she is not doing her job and it’s not you who suck or are bothering her but rather the manager. Either way get ahead of the issue.

I’m sorry OP, but really your new firm shouldn’t expect you to know about how to lead an audit. Acting as a senior with 1 year of experience is even hard if you were at your old firm.

I’d say talk to your manager to make sure she’s aware how you feel. But also there’s only so much you can learn from talking high level about hypothetical situations. I would suggest start getting piecemeal working papers to her to get her review notes, that way you have more tangible questions as a basis for discussion. Maybe also ask her for a checklist of items that you should be ware of or any hard deadlines that you need to follow

I feel so bad because this is my first impression and I feel like I’m doing so poorly 😭

Are you an experienced hire?

Yes but barely—one year exp.
I feel like I have no excuse to do poorly but I just suck 😭

Hey FishBowl Friends, so I’m currently trying to break into tech sales/FinTech and I feel that due to my previous work history, I might not look like the ideal candidate on paper but I’m an extremely fast learner and very coachable. I’ve been a manger at a gym, got my degree in finance, worked as a client advisor at a top 3 auto dealer in the nation and now I’m a project manager at a solar company. I really want something that’s remote and steady, any recommendations on how to spruce myself up?

Any tips for helping to get operations work recognized? I’m officially in ops but cover programs, business, and catch-all organizational needs. In the last year we rebranded and scaled 500% (staff, program offerings, funding) and I was the sole employee covering organizational ops at 100% during that time. When I proposed a title and compensation review, I was told I didn’t achieve enough impact. Unfortunately skills in project management and operations are not weighed heavily in comp reviews.

Anyone else feel like it’s impossible to explain our jobs to friends? I’ve been struggling with this for years and now my best friend is getting married, asking me to tentatively reserve numerous weekends for a shower and bachelorette that may or may not happen (I’m the MOH). Of course I’ll do my best to prioritize her plans but it makes me feel like a bad friend and mentally exhausted to always try to explain big law. (Disclaimer: I’m decent at drawing work life boundaries when possible)
