I’m at 4.5 YOE and it doesn’t really get better. Still trying to build the skills that an industry exit demands.
You ate only in for 1 yr and not a typical one! Think of where u might be now if you went to industry...maybe unemployed. Hang in there At least another yr before trying to jump.
Start reducing your working time and dedicate time toward building skills. There are plenty of PRDs looking for harder skills, and you’d have something to talk about on your resume for a pretty large firm.
Start thinking about what exit jobs you want and where. Look at hiring ads for these positions across a variety of industries and skill levels. Document what the requirements are, how many you meet, then develop a plan to bridge that gap.
Remember the enormous skills you get in Consulting cannot be compared to what you get in the industry. You just started the journey and there is so much to learn and gain post Covid. Now is the time to build so that you can reap the benefits later on. The grass is always greener on the other side, take your time Fish 🙏
Consulting is mostly soft skills which aren't helpful as a junior employee when people are expecting you to actually do the work. They're helpful for leadership when you can delegate tasks that require hard skills to everyone else
Desirable jobs? Don’t let consulting get to your head. You’re looking for junior entry level positions like everyone else with very little experience
I’m ideally trying to hire someone with about two years of experience from a mobility tech company, but I’ve interviewed some promising candidates with a year of experience (and gave an offer to one, though she sadly accepted a different offer), so there are some roles out there! Even with a year of experience I think many companies will find you more attractive than candidates with no experience.
You could shoot for a Campus grad role and prob still make more than what you make now.
Campus grad role in which industry?
Coach
Doubt you can do it today but I left with 9 months experience and a 30% pay bump from big 4 strat
Where did you go?
Find an entry level engineering / analyst role in industry, like you would have after college....
I was in industry and made a mistake to come here a year ago.
Anyway....
There are plenty of non stem ppl that i have personally seen in industry that are working in stem roles. They do start somewhere other than stem but over a few years , with skills and learning get to work in stem or other roles.
What is your degree in ?
Agree with Avanade, just look for entry level jobs. No experienced positions will try to look for someone with 1 YOE. And if none seem appealing to you, just stick with consulting.
This is not just limited to consulting. This is every industry. We live in fucked up times.
