I feel like I wasted a morning. I’m pregnant, can’t focus on work, can’t take my adhd meds, in a new position with no support, and I’m nauseated all the time. I don’t know how to prioritize my work like I have in the past. Has anyone else been in this situation? Any tips?

Yes. I had a very hard pregnancy. I had an honest conversation with my managers and just said I can't accept workload like I use to since I'm not operating at 100%. They were upset but understanding and just took away more work from me. It helped a little.

I’m very close to this conversation. My new manager has been wrapped up with a project and cancelled 3-4 weeks worth of 1:1s.

You have not "wasted" a morning - you are "baking" a whole new human being inside of you! You won't EVER prioritize your work like you did in the past - kids (even unborn ones) will suck up all your mental and physical energy. Embrace it and cut yourself a slack :-)

I so appreciate this! I still want to feel like I’m worth the paycheck though.

I don’t have any advice to offer, but I want to give you a virtual hug! I hope that you feel better soon! ❤️

I was thinking about trying to get pregnant but this scares me. I take my ADHD meds every day for work too. Like how do you not do that and also can’t drink coffee but are expected to perform the same at work? Bah sorry OP I’m probably not helping but understanding your struggle nonetheless.

I had similar concerns. In the end I thought whether or not to have a kid is a bigger decision than 9 months of work. I can find another job if they won’t work with me. Good luck!

I have two kids - 2yo and 3 month old. I also have ADHD. It is tough! Many people continue to take their meds while pregnant, but I did not. I made a lot of lists to manage my tasks and then I internally “bribed” myself to do tasks I was avoiding. So I would tell myself… do this one task for 15 minutes and then you can have a snack or surf the internet for 15 minutes or whatever. It worked sometimes. I’ll also add that I normally took 30mg of Adderall XR, but 1-2 times each pregnancy when I had an urgent task that needed my serious focus, I took a 5mg non-XR adderrall (not in first trimester though). My doctor said this was okay and better than meds everyday. Keeping my job and helping stress levels in those rare instances was better as well. Good luck!

It’s actually the original one also called IR (immediate release). The idea for pregnancy is that it doesn’t linger in your system as long… if you take IR instead of XR everyday, you would usually need a dose in the morning and a dose mid-day since it wears off.

I used to have terrible morning sickness / nausea. This might not be for everyone but to get over it I used to drink lots of water like 3-4 glasses and throw up. Then enjoy rest of the day. Focus and concentration was different each day and lots of rest or naps to recharge helped somewhat. Don’t be too tough on yourself, cut yourself some slack when it is one of those days

likehelpful

If you are still WFH, block your calendar and take a nap every. single. day. It did wonders for my energy level and focus! Also, get some sort of physical activity in daily, even if it’s just 20 minute walk.

like

This is great advice. I’ve been slacking on the physical activity bc I’m so fatigued but it’s a feedback loop and I just need to do it.

Take it easy. Your body is doing a lot of work. Hope you feel better soon!

Senior, pregnant and worried about busy season because half the seniors in my practice quit in the past two months. Directors have said to seniors “brace yourself”. Well I'm a first time mom and feel home bound running the baby cycles. My baby is not a good sleeper so I feel like I am on 24/7. When he is a asleep in doing the usual bottles, dinner etc. I feel like I need more confidence to get myself and baby out of the house with everything in tow but I suppose walking through malls could help. Houston heat doesn't make it ideal to walk around outside during the day. I also do the night cycles solo so I'm pretty much too exhausted to do anything but want to get more scheduled about it so I can plan on an hour here and there when my husband gets home.
