If there is a shitton of work for him to do, can you pick up a staff 2/senior for a few days for him to delegate the work that does not require client knowledge to empower him to delegate but retain the responsibility of getting all the shit done. One person charging 70 vs 1 charging 40 and another charging 24-30 is the same economics.
PWC2 - you are a true “manager” and will never be a leader. Leaders lead by examples, not words or authority. I call myself a workaholic but if I was working with someone like you, I would make sure to never put any effort for you
just be better
If you think they're overwhelmed, they likely are. I'd offer to move the work around, but make it clear it's because you value them and dont want to overwork them. Burnout is bad for everyone.
Who cares bro when your manager you're supposed to do that. The bottom line is nobody wants to do more work themselves. I would outsource all my work if possible. nobody really cares anyways it's just how it works. I am a senior and I also outsource 90% of the work to my team they work on the weekend and on average 60 hours a week and I just chill. Best part is at PWC you have people who are just workaholic who waste their life away working here. They make really good employees they listen are obedient and never refuse your instruction if you are the authority. so let them do it. Learned how to do this from one of my seniors and it's absolutely the best thing ever 😆😆😆😆😁😉🔥
PwC 2 good luck with that this year now that they’ve brought back upward feedback...
To OP: if you are a manager, is there any aspect you can take care of yourself? Can you train a staff to handle the work? If you are the staff, stop relying on your senior. Make educated guesses and just make note of it when you give the work to the senior.
PWC2: I agree with MA1, your staff will not want to be on your engagements for long if that’s your attitude or they will take over and pass you for promotions
I think it’s a lesson for seniors and staffs too, they have to learn to tell their managers when they’re being overused. Your senior should also complain about it himself.
Pwc2 I hope you’re joking. it doesn’t work when no one wants to work for you and the quality your team produces suffers as a result.
Does anyone NOT do what I suggested in the first reply? Do you ever let a struggling senior “drown” because you don’t care enough about them to correct it?
What do you mean "overusing”? Are you his staff or his manager? If staff, I suggest working alongside and trying to resolve as many questions as you can yourself without (but still ask questions at a reasonable time). Find out what tasks are priority and help meet deadlines. If you are manager, same thing is applicable - make sure you are helping do workpapers and not just reviewing
^ moss my point is I don't care and I shouldn't feel bad about it. Just how it works. Is it ethical? Probably not but nobody wants to do more work for this little money. If you really want to blame anyone, blame the firm for paying so little money and being so cheap to everyone so the partners can earn the big bucks 😉
@Pwc 2 - showing real leadership there. We need more ppl like you that really understand how the system works and can be future role models for the next wave of new hires
Just be honest. People handle stress differently..
Just have a conversation about current employee morale possibly
I am not joking my team are scared of me they do whatever I tell them to. I learned the skill from one of my past seniors and it has paid off greatly. it's not about being intimidating you also have to pretend that you are actually working hard yourself, and know what you are doing for them to respect you and your orders
PwC 4. You guys should stop being so soft lol. It's just how it works. it's not personal it's business. on the contrary I am doing very well with the managers and partners because I got things done. Ialso work for a big office so there's tons of staff that can work for me
^real edgy man
Ask him if he is overwhelmed, and how we can help him. Help him to learn when to ask for help and how. If he says he’s good than confirm he isn’t getting crushed and make a management decision to get him some help and/or roll up your sleeves and help him
if youre a staff, you cant really do much other then to be better. if you can make the review process a breeze for me with literally minimal updates (as if i was reviewing a seniors work), that will help me
^I dont disagree. As long as I dont have to do more work. Who and how many get the work done I dont care. But the thing is, not always you are gonna get other staff booked. In the partners mind, the senior working 70 hrs will eat his hrs hence book 40 hrs anyways. If u get one more person then it's real 70 hrs cant eat hrs. You have to think from each stakeholders perspective, more often than ever partner perspective wins. They are boss they call shots 😆😱
