I feel like the leadership on my team never pushes back on client ideas/requests no matter how ridiculous they are. We discuss how nonsensical they are as we continue to say yes to everything. Is this bad relationship management or just what is to be expected in professional services?

Leadership will never say no. They also do not do the work and have no clue what is applicable or not applicable. Engagements are run bottom --> up instead of top --> down. I call out leadership on this because they make the big bucks and bonuses to make decisions and when the default answer to a client is always "yes" that is not a decision rather someone on autopilot.

Gotta push back or else the client will ask for everything under the sun and then the actual work in-scope will suffer. Have to be diplomatic about it though.

Agreed. Anyone can say yes to everything, right?

Must be a strategy type of engagement?

It’s that part that the client actually loved, and when the meeting ended, everyone thanked her and congratulated her, and she said “thanks”without giving me a mention. Even our cd and account folks. I need some advice on my next steps after being laid off. It’s a bit complicated but for 5 month out of this past year I was forced to give up my billable hours in order to help “load balance” our team. I went from billing 100% to 58% (safe zone). Billable hours were given to other team members who didn’t have work. This was designed to help average out hours to prevent layoffs. I agreed to do this but felt it was unethical and would affect my performance review. How would you approach HR?
