I feel like traveling every week would be more manageable if we received a remote week every month. I asked to be remote after 7 months of nonstop travel, and I feel so much more energized for travel

One remote week per month is becoming more and more common. Gotta disagree with D2, don't think there is anything wrong with expecting a firms model to change when it can save money and improve the lives of it's employees with little negative impact on the business.

I vote for travel every other week!

SC1 good point. But just find another job. Don't expect firms to change their business model. They've been around a lot longer than you have. And if I'm a client paying 250 an hour for your time, I'd probably prefer you not be sitting at home on your laptop wearing pajamas...even if you are concievably just as productive

I travel every other week to every 3rd week. A lot of the time i fly home on Wednesdays. If this schedule had existed when i was in the big 4 then i probably would have stayed there. The number of high quality people they lose w their ridiculous travel is astronomical

like

If you didn't like the constant travel, you shouldn't have taken the job. It's not like you weren't told it was a travel position...amazes me when people complain about this

likefunny

D2, maybe some people don't realize it until they do it? The travel is way more exhausting and stressful than I could have ever imagined

like

We've been doing occasional remote weeks on my current project. You don't realize how much you're beating yourself up on the road until you stop. Real meals, better sleep, normal hours, better ergonomics, dogs!

like

Also D2 an issue I had was that I was told during my recruitment that my firm worked on the idea of 3 on 1 off... and then that fell through. So, it’s not always “the job you signed up for.” That being said, they promised that because it is becoming more common and they *want* to get there, but are also bending to pressure from clients who want us around

like

@d2. Actually firms should consider changing their business models. Especially if their money making assets keep walking out the door. Several other organizations (ie the military) have already done this. Clients pay for outcomes, we are only onsite to show the client how busy we are. If we could break that pattern then we would could move to a more flexible schedule. One way to break the cycle of being on-site 24x7 is to tell clients we will give them a 25% price break on our avg engagement cost for every week we are off site. That would be easy to implement....just dont pass thru expenses that week

We get remote weeks once a month on my current project, unless it’s go live. Long term project so LTT is tracked like a hawk

What are your strategies for completing work efficiently? How do you figure out how long projects should take? A consistent piece of feedback on my yearly reviews has been that I over-bill & spend too much time on assignments. It’s something I actively work on, but I still have no concrete sense of how long I should spend on basic tasks (e.g., drafting a motion to dismiss). My firm is right to expect that I manage my time better as a mid-level associate. WFH has made my time management worse.

Back on the market and I’m coming to find two things: 1. Less desirable agencies are the ones who want people back on-site soon, with no wiggle room for remote work. 2. These same agencies want to pay salaries based on COL in the city where the agency is based even if you’re working/living from another market in the interim. Example: Midwest based agency paying Midwest salaries to folks living in places like NY, SF, LA. 🧐🧐🧐🧐

United lost my son's car seat on a 3 hr flight. It was registered as a checked luggage with the proper csrseat tag and everything. After following up with an agent after we landed, they said it stayed in EWR and they are working to get it shipped to me in the next day or so while I'm on vacation. Anyway to get points for the inconvenience, I'm Premier platinum if it matters. They did give me a free loaner carseat until mine arrives but it's kinda crappy tbh.
