I feel like Work Well Be Well is a complete joke. How on earth can any firm talk about mental or physical health when we are working 15 hours a day for weeks on end?

LOL at OP asking if the guy with the sweet schedule is in PCS. PCS busy seasons are generally twice as long as core, at a minimum, and on clients that are much less organized/competent. Plus they generally have 6 or so clients vs. 1 or 2 in Core. The ONLY thing they have going for them is less regulatory oversight, though they still audit to Core standards. I would not want to be in PCS, but mostly because it sounds harder not easier. I never understood why people look down on that group.

It’s a great idea in theory and the Energy Principles are solid. However, the firm also needs to invest in the eradication of policies in conflict, like mandatory charge hour goals and not allowing healthy activities, like renewal or leadership trainings, to be treated as chargeable. Be well, work well can only scratch the surface of impact until the firm gets rid of all the practices that have a cancelling effect on a healthier approach to work.

Every firm non-guidance initiative is ridiculous because there are always bigger fish to fry that actually relate to our real jobs. Digital fitness, habit bank, be well work well, salesforce...all a load of garbage that firm elders think of during their breaks between talking about diversity, eating Oreos, telling markets they can't hire staff, deciding to restrict our raises, cutting promised bonus rates, etc. It's all garbage and they know it, but it must be done to sell ourselves to new hires and to the press. You know what millennials want? Less time working for more pay. Fire all those consultants thinking up all the extra crap and give us their money and use some of it to hire extra staff! The effing end!!!!

I’ve never understood the point behind these posts - 12+ hour days are shitty in general, regardless of how much people work beyond that. Honestly, if it’s that bad consistently, either 1) transfer to another group, 2) quit or 3) stop trying so hard. Who gives a shit if you get a 3 - you literally get the same raise +\- a grand or two. If you don’t want to quit or transfer, it’s cause you’re either too lazy or not confident enough to look for an alternative, and stagnation’s on you.

Yeah I don’t know who they’re kidding. During busy season we have mandatory hours to work. ... mandatory hours that are insane.... how do we be well work well with that

like

KPMG 1 I mean there are only 24 hours in a day so I feel like 15 is justifiably “a lot"

I don’t want my time wasted by having to be involved in things like habit bank and challenges. The fact that the firm is holding vacation over our head to do this stuff is insulting

like

Would you rather work for a Firm that is trying to start a conversation around well-being or one that doesn’t address it at all? Please answer honestly. No one said this is easy stuff or we don’t work hard.

like

Pwc3 for real you would think there would be a busy season max below 55 instead of a 55 hour minimum if you wanted to “be well” or “work well”

Ah you missed my point though. This health initiative just seems stupid when we have bigger things to focus on

If youre only working 15s you must be experiencing that work life balance crap partners are always talking about. You can complain when you start working some real hours.

Also, I don't want my staff and seniors wasting time on this habit bank challenge during busy season. They have real work to do and I'd rather they spend that 30 minutes doing something productive work wise or spend it with their families or sleeping!

A similar thing gets rolled out amongst all member firms and not all suck 😂 it's rare for me to work past 6 and as a senior the most I've worked during busy is 60 hours (and I complained loudly after).

Everyone I know in PCS has a longer busy season but it's less busy. 6-8 months of true year end work, but they typically work 45-50 hours during that time. I think it probably evens out to core audit in the end

I think it comes off as more of a “checked box” for those at the top when the reality is auditing is hard work that wears you down mentally and physically. It’s cute they are doing this from a media perspective but it won’t change anything at all. I wish they’d do a be well work well announcement just giving us something to help with well-being then pretending like our work environment is our fault.
