I feel perpetually down. I’m on vacation with family somewhere I would usually really enjoy and I can’t find the joy in anything. I feel like a different person, like my body is moving but my mind isn’t present. Is this depression? Many bad things have happened this year so could be. I just don’t feel normal. I want to cry way more often than usual. I can’t find the joy or motivation for anything anymore.

Psst, there's a global pandemic and major civic unrest and a huge economic downturn and for everyone, no matter how much we have experienced that is horrific this year, there is a sense that the other shoe (boot? Cleat??) Is going to drop.

It's a trying time. In a profession almost exclusively reliant on emotional intelligence (but in a way that decenters the self)

It makes sense. Don't push yourself. Note the changes, write them down. Do the things you want now (even if that's laying down and watching a movie or talking instead of hanging out on a beach or doing activities).

This time will pass, but there's no telling when and what will be on the other side. The best thing you could do for yourself is stop holding yourself and your life to standards that don't take the reality of this year into account

Best xx

I hear ya and am in the same boat too.

My advice is to Turn the news off ( I cut the cable and now save 100/ month!) and focus on the little things, like hearing a good joke that makes you laugh.. if you have trouble relaxing I use an app called CALM... they have free 7 day period so give it a try.. it helps me clear my mind and let go of all the stress in life...

like

I will try that one too...anything to alleviate the stress even if it’s just for an hour..

And here’s one for a silly joke....

What word begins with “e” and only has one letter in it?

Envelope :)

Same boat as ya, bud.

Exactly the same. Can't seem to feel the joy. Highly irritable though so that's cool.

Why does everyone feel like this? Is it our profession? Does everyone feel like this w their career??

I’m 16 weeks pregnant and haven’t told anybody at work. My team is organizing an out of town networking event next week (60+ people) and I’m getting second thoughts about attending (mostly because of covid or any other virus I could get by flying in or attending). Am I overreacting or being crazy for thinking this way? I don’t know whether I should attend or not, and if I decide not to, what my excuse could be as I don’t want anybody to think they can’t count on me anymore bc I’m pregnant. Help!

I'm an RN of 7 years, experience as a coordinator, on committees and do all the things. But now I just don't want to go to work anymore. I have anxiety every morning over nothing, just having to go perform my job. I could do my job in my sleep so I'm just lost and confused. My body is clearly sending me messages to leave. I’m so incredibly burnt out—I’ve been going to sleep at 3 am and waking up at 7. I’m working 16 hour days consistently, and on Friday through Saturday I literally pulled an all nighter (until 11 am) to work. I don’t have time to make friends, let alone hang out with them, and all of my partner’s free time lately has been helping me stay afloat. I told myself I wouldn’t quit before busy season ends in March and put my team in a bad spot, but I honestly don’t know if I can make it to then.
