Comparison is the thief of joy, and it is really difficult to sound confident and positive if you talk about yourself in relation to others.
I recommend focusing the conversation on readiness, and working with several mentors and senior leaders to determine the unofficial "checklist" that will demonstrate that you are ready and already performing at the next level. Once you have the conversation, follow up. Now's the time to set the plan, and revisit it with mentors monthly.
Be super focused on critical feedback, don't let anyone skate by and tell you to "just keep doing what you're doing" get real action items from them and track your progress.
Consulting is more than just experience and expertise. How are you with client interaction? Working with others? Leading teams? Developing people?
No I call bs on this. People don’t have to jump through all those hoops to just get handed things. It’s only when someone isn’t being treated fairly you create hoops and become a stickler about it.
OP I’m going to give you the advice I wish someone gave me—move on. They prefer other people to you and for whatever reason they’re holding a soft preference of theirs against you. I know people who came in as a Sr assoc and stayed a Sr Associate for 9 to 10 years with no promotion or development and the dangling carrot of promotion being bound to happen next year made him waste a decade of career time waiting round for people who just don’t want him as part of leadership because they want him to do
all the actual work. It he was promoted they’d lose their bitch. When he quit finally all they did was look at him and say “we need someone to do this work.” There you go.
Leave and let them choke on it.
Thanks A1. I agree comparison isn't generally appropriate but it's kind of unreal looking at recent promos. I have a list of all i've done functioning above level and meeting, it was just not recognized.
In the same boat, OP. Doesn’t seem to matter I get top reviews, and my case leads recommend me for promotion. I am now at the point of assuming they just don’t want me, specifically, and can’t counsel me out because my performance is so strong. It’s demoralising, but I feel like what someone else said further up is the best approach...move on.
I hear you OP. If it wasn't recognized, it is worth asking your leaders/mentors anyway. Your list might not be the list they had, or people might have been unaware of your contributions. Each year is a new year, so start off right by documenting and doing a little self promotion (the earlier the better, and make it sound like you're looking for more challenges to grow and get better, not tooting your own horn). Make sure lots of people, not just your CC and client lead, know you and what you're doing. Networking is a huge part of it

One of the most important things you can do for promotion is “get your name out there”. You want as many people on the performance call to have heard of you and be able to say to themselves “oh she did X” or “she helped me with Y one time” as possible. Getting promoted is as much an exercise in branding yourself than anything else. Think of it like running for office.
I suspect that your shy, introverted personality may be partially to blame here. Maybe it’s not fair, but I’ve seen a trend of more confident extroverts dominating over the quiet types no one knows

You’re the go to person for doing all the work. Not for leadership. You’re what they call “the grunt” because if no one has the skills or can do that work, they promote them and make you do the grunt work.
agree with SC1. you are the grinding machine. You might get passed on next year too and if it’s big 4 may cause eventual layoff.
SC1: big 4 don’t allow 9-10 years in the same level.
The federal side doesn’t work that way. You can stay there forever at one level.

Don't feel my voice is being heard or I will see any change. I am a quieter person and introvert. When I speak about my concerns I been told I get to direct about it. Any suggestion on how to appropriately have this particular conversation?
How’s your relationship with your CC? They’re your main advocate through the talent discussion project. I’m also a quiet introvert at ACN and primarily have been on male dominated projects but the right support at both your project and group leadership make a difference.
Yeah, it appears that way. I honestly am not doing grunt work though, I'm working above level. I would do more work if they needed and would promote me. I'm just burnt out and chronically not acknowledged in promotions or bonuses.
No you’re doing the work. That’s the grunt work. Above level grunt work is grunt work. So basically you’re doing your level of work and then whichever guy got promoted above you, you’re doing his work, which frees him up to get promoted again. Stop giving guys who stab you in the back an easy time. Clients pay because they want your skills, introvert or not. Instead the jerks above you arent doing much and getting paid tons more than you. You’re worth more than they’re letting on to you. Next!
