I'm here to say I totally understand where you're coming from and whilst I have no solution or suggestion, I think building on the mediator skills might be a good option or maybe something along the lines of an in house career counselor? The other suggestions sound good: speaking to an exec recruitment agency to help you find something and I'm definitely going to read that book by Barbara Sher someone else suggested

Rather than applying to specific job openings, I’d recommend researching certain companies where you’ll be a great culture fit where you won’t be discriminated against for your experience and reach within your network for referrals. I’d also reach out to executive recruiters, they may be able to support as well. Finally, I’d leverage the executive networking group/contacts Deloitte offers if you are willing to be transparent about wanting to leave the firm. Good luck OP! You sound amazing, any company would be lucky to have you. FWIW, the majority of large industry companies (outside of high tech) will never be as progressive and people orientated as Big 4 and yes you are definitely seen as a threat when interviewing considering your experience.

I am starting to suspect my mindset is heading the exact same direction as you so wonderfully articulated OP. I turn 50 next year and am picturing another 10 years at this rat race without much glee. Trying to figure out what might be my new plan A. Wishing you the best OP!

And best of luck to you as well!

As a caveat, there is nothing with where I work, my teams, or the people I work with. I simply want a change and out of consulting.

Talk to a recruiting firm that can explain things on your behalf if necessary. Also, you can do a career objective summary on your resume. Look at salaries on Glassdoor, you may have to go down.

Have you considered consulting? Starting your own business? If not, why not?

like

So, I've consulted my entire life in some fom or fashion. I mean, look at where I work. As to starting a business? No desire. I've started a number of businesses and to do it well is a hard burn, no matter how smartly one does it.

OP you were wondering why no one was biting so I suggested something that jumped out to me. You may have a perfectly good reason but so can others for what they think and do. Look at your long winded responses to a simple comment - might there not be a reason to cut you short? Think from others’ perspective if you want to understand why.

funny

I think I am saying the same thing to you, we agree.

What level are you at D?

Quick question. I just noticed that my original post has been shared a couple of times.. Why the shares? People feel the same sentiment? It's a topic of discussion you've recently had? It's interesting to me and I would love to hear the insight!
