I finally need a taxable brokerage (for more than the beer money I have in Robinhood anyway), and overwhelmed by the options. Will be 95% index funds, 5% continuing to dick around in individual stocks/etfs. Already have IRAs at vanguard. "Real" money in vanguard, fun money in robinhood? Quit adding to RH and focus on V? Something else entirely?

Why don’t you use vanguard for everything?

like

TBH I didn't realize vanguard was an option for stocks/non-vanguard products until recently. I kind of hate their platform--it feels dated, but for my "buy it and forget it" stuff, the low cost matters more.

RH is way too easy to use, not great for research, but it's my impulse buy service. Not sure I want my gambling money and my FIRE stash in the same place. But I also hate having as many accounts as I do...

Merrill Edge. Free commissions and a great rewards program if you have Bank of America accounts.

I love the ML platform.

Interactive brokers generally the best there is. Get a referral code so you get a couple hundred $ when you sign up and deposit some money. The referrer doesn’t get anything.

If you have a large IRA balance, you could consider hitting the $75k or $250k balance requirements at Chase. You get some investing and checking perks as a result of holding the balance there

I use Ally for my brokerage. Low fees and commissions. I also have a HYSA (emergency fund) and some CDs with them.

I use vanguard for my Roth and 401k. I like them too. Ive been with Ally for much longer. When I opened my brokerage they were the best for low fees so I can't speak to Vanguard vs Ally for just brokerage

Nope, one login for my brokerage + HYSA + CDs. When you first login you see all 3.

1 - will we end up having issues filing for taxes jointly and show deductions etc?
2 - will there be issues with joint ownership (title) if the mortgage does not include us both?
3 - any other risk/benefit

I’ve been trying to recruit attorneys to join our team at my firm but it’s been incredibly difficult to do so, even for friends of mine who I know are working at firms which are really terrible. Bought a SFH where I’d barely break even given the realtors estimate of 1.1k rent. Neighbor kindly let me know going rate was actually 1.6k. Put it up for 1.5k to get a nicer long term tenant and signed in 2 weeks. First investment property and learned a lot from here/bigger pockets so feeling pretty good!
