Litigation & Arbitration

I find myself not wanting to put the extra time in at the office, especially after traveling for depositions and court appearances. Any one else?

I’m a prosecutor and am in court or doing victim meetings roughly 90% of the week. I get all of my pleadings and filings done, but leadership is up my butt about those few other hours they think I should be chained to my desk. I don’t get it. It’s good to m own I’m not alone. I think my general take home from these types of issues is to remember that until the ABA requires some sort of leadership training, lawyers will continue to lead the way they were led. We are not taught management skills unless we seek them out. So I make a note of things leaders do that I hate, think are arbitrary, or embrace as effective and hope to remember them when I’m in leadership.

Nice humble brag for having taken depos and having court room appearances.

Wow, some of these comments are flashbacks to an environment I'd hoped started waning decades ago. Perhaps I'm extremely fortunate that I don't have to deal with anyone, ever, telling me I need to put in more hours. Do the work and when it's done, so are you. This motivates me to be efficient. And I get the reward/ benefit of relaxing when I'm done. Forcing someone to be in the office only motivates them to work slowly.

Try setting out your post- depo agenda in a short email to the charging partner (or your supervisor/mentor: "If the Smith depo is finished before the end of the day, my plan is to prepare my depo notes, send them to X and then if time permits, work thorugh the statement of facts on the Jones brief. I'll be working from home (to avoid an unproductive commute), and reachable by cell at xxx.xxx.xxxx . Please let me know if I should follow a different game plan. " Most law firm internal problems are "Cool Hand Luke" problems....

Creditor's rights attorney- I am in court every singlr day, sometimes two or three different ones. I live in rental cars, and some weeks I work from home more than I do my office. That tends to cause some friction with my business unit head, who is an old-timer and thinks all work must be done in-office.

Depos and court can be exhausting. However, on other days, you gotta put the time in. Especially if you’re in your first few years of practice, the learning curve is steep.

It's called a laptop and the internet. You don't have to be in the office. We young attorneys are in the office on average least 5hrs a day(minus lunch and oout of office work). During those 5hrs that we are in the office, we learn hard and soft skills. You wanting a dog tired person to come into the office and be pissed for 1extra hour a day will not make them better lawyers.

Can someone share if MBB does any sign to close or post close work like separation planning, TSA creation, synergy modeling etc? Typically I have seen big 4/Accenture/a&m do such kind of work.

Started a new job in Jan and just as I got project work the pandemic hit. Feeling extremely overwhelmed and as if I have no help since we are all working remote now. Any suggestions or feedback on how to improve my situation? the other consultant on my project is sometimes helpful, when it’s convenient for them but I feel really annoying and as if I need my hand held since it’s my first project. Any suggestions or feedback would be helpful
