I find one of the questions asked by recruiters HRs so silly, recruiter has reached me out on cell phone and asks why are you looking for change? I don’t understand are they trying to be superior here or follow a script.

Hi folks, I have recently joined Publicis Sapient taking an offer of 14.4 LPA. I have total 4.5 years of experience and my previous CTC was around 3.4 LPA. I had various offers in hand but not one to counter this one and PS is providing me 4x+, so I couldn't negotiate much.
Another thing is I was an immediate joiner as I had left my previous organisation 3 months ago so I couldn't wait to think about this offer.
But now I think it's low, what do you think please let me know and suggest.

What's wrong in the question? Different people have different reasons for changing.some change as they want desired location.some for kind of project.some for money.sonefor onsites. Some for role etc.
Instead of questioning why a question is asked, be ready to answer any question. Because of lack of knowledge you may not feel it's a valid question, but people have their own reasons to ask questions.
Chief
Hope does it matter? Whether you reached out or they reached out to know what exactly matters to you and what you looking for in an org and reason why you decided to move on will still be relevant.
@ PM - i liked your well articulated answers where I see experience and diplomacy. I want to understand one thing- how this “why are you switching question” affects the outcome of the interview. I can say anything which cant be validated at all. So how is this question relevant to the role and work you are being hired for. Want to know your perspective on this
Yes PM1 a very good answer you have given, I had a similar experience where I was asked in one of the tech round about my future goals. Tbh one needs to be damn clear on this cause if you just answer vague it shows that you might just be switching for money or may not be motivated enough for the role.
They are not silly. They are very intelligent and cunning. Based on your answer they can easily trap you to get on lower salary. If you give them any financial reason, they will assume that most likely you are not going to join them and just surfing for yet another offer to increase your salary and they will give you only 50ak extra than previous offer. If you give answer as toxic work environment, they will assume that you are desperate and again they will use this in their favor in negotiation. You need to give them some genuine answer through which they can't manipulate you.
@PM1
Thanks for the answer.
But I've experienced this with multinational product based companies. Automotive domain, to be specific.
One company even verbally confirmed the offer only to ghost a few days later.
Whole HR interview is a joke. Why did you choose this company, why are you switching...I am just here for the money human!
Well money is the primary factor. Most people switch companies when they feel they aren't paid enough. This is so obvious. Anybody can fabricate a diplomatic answer to make the HR feel good - I like the company culture, its mission blah blah. Real reasons other than money- 'this seems like a low stress job ', 'vacation time is so flexible' - do you think HR's wanna hear this answer too?

I am working in my current company from 6 years. I left the previous company in 1 year. One recruiter got agressive while asking why I left that startup after 1 year. I was like it was 6 years ago how does it even matter now given I am working in the same company for 6 years. Needless to say the call was from some 🔔 company. I’ve noticed that the company recruiters are polite and understanding but the 3rd party recruiters are often rude. It’s because they deal mostly with low quality candidates.
Chief
Yeah 3rd party recruiters are not trained. Also for most firms especially indian service firms, TAs are hired temporarily and they not trained. It's a problem we have and I have had candidates backing out because they had bad exp with TA team.

To lowball you
PM1 & Infosys1 - you both have strong reason for your opinion, so match is tie. Infosys 1 is working too seriously , he should understand that ultimately it is business & there is no free lunch/ ethics. Better to look for other options instead of raising concern to HR & Manager, They will change only if attrition is more than 100%.
Chief
Its a question in their checklist which they have to ask no matter what .
Chief
See we are speaking generically here . Is there a recruiter who is a fresher and who doenst kbow what to ask and so a checklist is given and they blindly ask questions. Yes may happen.
Doesn't mean it's a norm or industry practice where all TA or HR does. We see one example and talk like that's what everyone does
Pro
Just answer "want to change just for timepass"
It might not be silly I will give you my example. I just joined 1 org a month back and the role was not aligning to what I was expecting so in that case I had to justify myself. And its not difficult to answer just say your genuine reasons and I dont think so they will have any problem
Just a script and also sometimes this goes in their favour based on candidates answer.
Chief
If answered correctly can be in favor of candidate also
