What I want to know:
1. How much does the agency believe in strategy? How do they use it?
2. How strong is the department?
3. How much do they invest in upskilling / training?
4. What is expected of the job? (unlike acct mgmt it’s not as clear). Please be honest. Not everyone is going to lead strategy. I turned down a director job cause I found out there were two other GSDs on it.
5. And most importantly, who is in strategy leadership? What’s their philosophy on planning?
Recruiters often start by telling me what client I’ll be working on - sure that’s important - but personally I couldn’t care less abt the brand. I want to know HOW the agency / leadership brands, sells and supports strategists making strategic inroads with all clients.
I find it frustrating when a recruiter won't share baby details about the role, account or agency without scheduling a phone call.
With that said, any Sr. Strat roles?
Recruiters for hire don’t know most of the details about the department or the agency that I’m interested in so I’m always more interested when someone from the agency reaches out. Also saves me a round of repeating myself
Linkedin all the way. I found my current job that way. Emails are creepy IMO
How would you feel about a department who openly admits they are looking for talent to help build and grow the department? I think people underestimate that it takes a good army to make change and it’s difficult for leadership alone to do it

Thanks everyone and Senior Planner 1 for the thoughtful answer. Do you think people want that extensive info in an initial LinkedIn outreach email?
