I find super attractive women intimidating. I’ve (F) been called stunning/beautiful most of my life (after high school), but when I see super good looking women I still feel like an ugly potato

I’ve heard this often enough to have a theory that the more compliments and value one’s appearance gets as they are raised and grow into their own, the more self conscious and insecure they become about it. Know that your worth is way more than your face. I don’t know much about you, but I know odds are you can crunch numbers way better than those so called super attractive women!

Yes... I was repeatedly told that my body was perfect growing up. Now that my body is no longer a 18 years old teenager, I feel insecure about all the minor changes from aging, stress, genetics. When I look in the mirror I am constantly comparing myself to my younger self and seeing what is no longer perfect even though to an outsider I look healthy. I am totally aware of my patterns and beliefs that have been ingrained into me growing up but it’s definitely a challenge to break out of that cycle. Especially when you’ve grown up conditioned to value certain things or told certain statements about yourself repeatedly by the people you trust. So ultimately I think it’s a constant repeated effort to try and break free from those patterns and that is ultimately what adulting is as C3 said where you get to a point where you feel comfortable in your own skin regardless of the stress days, hangover days, and aging.

I love this phrase that I heard recently, “Your body is the least interesting thing about you.” Don’t take too much stock into physical beauty standards and comparing yourself with others. It will make you feel bad 100% or the time when you could have just spend that time loving yourself!

I’ve only been called handsome by my mom and grandma 😪

I look like an ugly potato most days, but I have forever, so at least I'm used to it. It encouraged me to cultivate confidence and self worth in other parts of myself. You are not your outward appearance - know your worth.

I’ve accepted the fact that I’m handsome. Modesty is so overrated 😉

LOL I spent $12k and installed 360 degree mirrors in my bathroom for that same reason (except F) 😅

Surely you should have something else to be pround of, besides beauty? Beauty fades, intelligence/virtues do not. Beauty is just be the icing on the cake .

I get called beautiful all the time too. It's sort of annoying. I've determined that you have a higher standard of beauty because you see yourself all the time, so you focus on your flaws more. Meanwhile, other people are not used to that level of beauty

No he hasn't but I get the joke now

It’s probably as you get older you are more critical of yourself .

i think it’s like you ride the curve of insecurities until you get to a point of maturity where you develop real confidence

If you're stunning yourself, what leads to these feelings? The problem with social media especially is that it sets unrealistic beauty standards and makes us compare ourselves against others

Yes agreed 100%, social media makes me feel awful

I feel the same way about being called intelligent or brilliant all the time. When I see someone I find brilliant, I feel like the dumb as hell

So I just joined a new company and 3 weeks in, I just have a feeling that I really don’t want to continue. People are amazing but I just feel like it’s not the company for me. If I’m applying to other companies, should I list this company on my resume considering it’s been like only 3 weeks? (Just for context, previous company I worked for almost 3 years and I feel like I was lying to myself that I loved my company and I don’t want to keep lying to myself which is my main motive) Thanks!!

Been in Seattle for ~1 year and something I’ve observed is the constant s*it-talking of the city from the locals. Is this because they haven’t experienced other places? While the current homelessness in the city needs to be handled, crime is still relatively low compared to other major cities. The complaints about gloominess also seems a bit dramatic. I’m from the NE and am so grateful to not be dealing with snowy winters and sweltering summers.

I’m looking for a smaller investment company to work for as a senior accountant and get some operational experience. Im looking for something where I can work directly with the manager or controller and am the only senior. A lot of the ads and roles recruiters bring to me are for big shops. Besides LinkedIn and indeed and recruiters, is there any other place I can look for these types of opps? They’re probably pretty rare /: but just thought I’d ask as I’m getting pretty sick of public.

Advice on a product interview challenge? You have 2 features and 1 month, each of the features needs 1 month, what would you do. My approach would be to ask questions to understand the value of each feature. The effort is the same (1 month). There is an interesting detail: feature 1 has already been partially built and there is 1 more month needed to complete it. Feature 2 has not been started yet and is estimated to need 1 month to complete. How would you use this detail in your prioritisation?
