Gender does not equal the sexual biological differences that women and men have. Gender (at least to me) is much more to how we interpret the biological sex to act or more broadly be which can be argued is a social construct. But, biological sex is not a social construct, it’s a literal fact. So when it comes to sports we operate from your biological sex that have marked differences between the two, not gender. I think communities trying to change this distinction are wrong.

Because if it was co-ed a majority of women wouldn't qualify.........

D3…I see what you’re doing there 😎

You actually think gender is a social construct, and that men and woman arent physically different?

likehelpful

SC3 - That is what’s done. With the exception of literal one-offs at certain universities, there are only two revenue generating sports - men’s football and basketball and football loses money at a number of places. These sports subsidize everything else in the athletic program - men and women included.

You lost me at gender is a social construct...

The behaviors attached to genders are a social construct, so in a way yes gender is a social construct. Physical attributes (or said simply, sex) isn’t, I agree with that. Co-ed sports at the highest level is physically born male sports...

like

I don’t get it. Co Ed sports are just male sports because almost no women would qualify. I don’t think there are women out there the size of LeBron James.

A1 because there isn’t a single woman on earth who could make an NBA roster. That’s why they created the WNBA, so that women can compete at their highest level playing basketball.

So they became a woman in 2012 at age 34… well after puberty and muscle development and 9 years after the olympics decided to allow transgender athletes to compete. This isn’t a matter of *wokeness* this is unfair to female athletes. There’s a reason we don’t let 18-year old HS seniors compete against elementary school students: biology

Whoa watch out there your reasoning makes too much sense.

People really need to stop conflating gender with sex. Sex is not a social construct and has more real world ramifications. The real answer would be to make men's sports co-ed and keep women's sports for females

The coed teams would be disadvantaged 99% of the time

I really hope this is a joke. I’m all for equality and I’m all for people being whatever version of themselves that they want…but gender less sports? Gender as a social construct and not a biological difference? Just…wow.

We need to realize synergies between men and women sports by combining it into a single unisex league. We can then eliminate redundant positions. Where is my big bonus for all the savings?

Gender is a social construct based on sex. Sex is a biological binary classification. I am all for people with gender identities that are different than their sex. However, IMO people shouldn’t be able to use their gender identity to challenge their sex classification and laws/rules based on sex.

This is more clear on your position so thanks for clarifying. Your first comment suggests you’re “all for” and in the same breath you add a significant “however” that diminishes the “all for” type of support. My position is relatively consistent with your latest comment so no disagreement there

I am a POC and have enjoyed the diversity of colleagues that I have met in consulting so far. When I look at websites of PE firms, I see primarily white men from Associate all the way to Managing Director level. Why do you think there are these structural differences? Do PE firms not believe as much in diversity of thoughts/lived experiences? Do you think that consulting would provide more advancement opportunities than PE does for a POC, given the structural differences?
