For all the lifer babies on large accounts ... please agree that most of us work on a broad set of firm engagements, help build the annual account strategy and foster new talent that joins difficult clients... I’m one of them 4 years in 3 promotions strong and continuing to do a kick ass job! Consistency in a main client helps with expectation setting and overall establishing a work life balance in the long term.

To be honest...staying at an account, and moving into account leadership, is excellent CAL training. I think why some firms say it’s the norm is because some have a large client structure to support it. You go from being a specialist in a capability and client hopping to being a specialist of a client....across multiple capabilities. They both have their benefits depending on what you are looking for. I’ve been at the same client, who is huge, at least part time for 7 years. I’ve been at other clients at the same time. But I love growing with this client and getting to play a variety of roles outside of my specialty. As my clients get promoted into different departments, they bring my teams along for the ride. Bottom line...look at the positive side of the situation and make the best of it. And if you want out...then get out. It’s not hard

I feel you OP. I deployed to Iraq when I was 20. It was such an intense mission it was only supposed to be 4 months. Left 15 months later.

Accenture folk typically get fired 2 months into their gigs, so I completely understand how you are out of your comfort zone

Count yourself lucky, I joined accenture as an analyst and my first role was supposed to be 3 months. I wanted to try different clients and industries before choosing a specialism....4 years later and I managed I escape.

On a positive note, longer term roles are good for progression! And the client obviously like you!! #glasshalffull

A5, you are correct. Strategic accounts like to keep people around. It provides continuity of business knowledge. And most are a series of short projects that result in the next add on that results in you being extended for a few more months.

I know people who went from Analyst to Senior Manager on the same client at ACN. Could be worse. 🙀

For anyone in a supervisory role: take a moment today to tell one of your staff that they’ve been doing a great job. You know, the one who you’ve probably asked a thousand times throughout the year to hop on time-sensitive projects. It takes no effort to give a nice little compliment that goes a long way. While you’re at it, give yourself a pat on the back too. It’s OK to feel good about the work you’re doing. Hope this helps someone!

What do you do with an inexperienced engagement director that does not know how to even set up a project and manage it at the outset? And yet, he/she is too arrogant to take advice or help?

Any firms hiring in the Charlotte, NC Area? I’m looking for a career change so open to all industries. Currently work in compliance.

Would love to hear from someone who’s jumped from Agency to Client Side:

What’s been good? / What’s been bad? / What are the misperceptions of said leap?

I tryed my best in an interview for a lateral move position at American Airlines . I passed the first round and the second round was a panel who do not even belong to this team. I thought I gave my best and answered according to American Airlines work culture and it has been a week and haven't heard from them yet. I tried following up with the hiring manager and got no response. What more can I do? OR should i think this is gone and try for another one?
