How did you lose the weight from your first pregnancy? 5 months pp and if anything I gained even more weight from my hormones being all over the place and lack of sleep impeding my self control / portion control 😭

So i lost about 30 naturally & with some exercise after birth & breastfeeding. Maybe 5 months. Then i lost 15 when i was under severe stress and had mouth surgery so i couldnt eat much and shrunk my stomach (so if you ignore the stress, i ate less and walked more). Thennn i lost the last bit by walking about ~4 miles a day for a couple months. Lost all 60 by 1 year postpartum, though everything is still pretty loose from not doing enough toning/lifting.
Congrats mama! For me what helped was thinking about what I did want to include in my diet - not exclude. So I thought that 50% of my plates should be veggies, and that I wanted to make sure to have either a small half of an avocado or some wild salmon/ oily fish every day, and that helped me create a structure to have healthy food (not to say there weren’t many pizza or sushi nights, but when then i would get some salad and start there). Tried to keep prepped fruit in the fridge too to fill up on before. And then had ice cream or whatever your treat is occasionally. Helped be more balanced. I don’t do well when someone tells me I can’t have something. 😆
I just focused on eating healthy, but didn’t restrict ice cream and other sweets. I think they key is moderation - have a small bowl of ice cream vs 1/2 or the whole pint. And a big factor for me was exercise...walk walk walk. I also used the glass of water trick - if i had already eaten I’d drink a full glass of water to make sure I wasn’t just thirsty before eating again.

I tracked calories 🤷🏼♀️ if I was hungry, I went ahead and ate more but I tried to make healthier choices. It kept me more accountable for what I was eating vs just letting myself go crazy. I had some crazy cravings and for a few weeks I could have literally eaten a large pizza by myself and been happy. Tracking helped me realize 3 pieces of pizza + some salad was more than enough. First tri you don’t need extra cals, 2nd tri is like 300 cals and third tri is 500. Obviously listen to your body, but there typically isn’t a reason to go 1000 calories extra every day.

Oh, and I kept up my exercise until 40 weeks. By the end it was just walks, but I think staying active is hugely helpful too.

What was the timeline of your weight gain, in general? Did you put on weight consistently? Or not the first trimester but mostly the last?
Do you recall being actively hungry during your pregnancy? Or feeling more like, “I’m eating for two, so more fries are okay?”

Keep healthy stuff nearby all the time. I'd buy those big bowls of cut fruit (that are like for parties) and eat the whole thing myself in a few days. Cold and sweet, was my go to snack morning noon and night.

And agree with keep moving your body! Even if it's just walking. I'd go to a spin class at my gym and sit in the back and just easy spin the whole time enjoying the music.

Thank you all! Ive redownloaded the tracking app to track food intake and i will start walking again. Covid kept me in inside for so long itll feel odd to be out again. Ill also have to slow down on the amount of sugar i eat; have been enjoying baking while wfh.
The first time, i was way more hungry all the time and i am pretty sure i overloaded on sweets and stopped exercising too soon.
