So they always had the ability to decrease your caseload and increase your pay? But they chose not to because they could get away with abusing associates?
I'm at a small firm. We haven't laid anyone off in the past 8 years I've been here. That's BS.
Same. You're probably more likely to get laid off at a bigger firm then a smaller firm.

Ask yourself why you took the time to find another job, interview, accept an offer, and put in a notice in the first place.
Also, only 15? I hope your lateral offer is much more than 15.
Regardless of the money, that snide comment, is what draws the line for me.
“chance of being laid off” is a scare tactic, and childish. She’s trying to scare you into staying out of fear. Now, do you really want to work for someone like that?
Additionally, even if she gives you 15, she will not lessen the case load. I’ve heard plenty of stories where a lighter caseload was promised (in similar situations), and never fulfilled.
She knows that she can force you to stay, give you a raise, and you will owe her more work, not less. Trust me, she will spin it this way.
I saw this happen in person. Associate got a raise and workload decrease to stay so he stayed. Every comp meeting the partners would bitch about why this associate is getting x dollars more than his peers and not billing more hours than INSERT TOP BILLING associate. It basically made the workplace unbearably negative for him and partners just stopped giving him work out of spite.

Disregard everything she said. She is lying to you to benefit herself. Also realize that small firms will choose to underpay you over laying off a useless partner.

Heard of this happening many times. Never knew anyone who stayed. Too little, too late.
When you say break up with your SO because they’ve been mistreating you and they say they’ll change and you won’t be able to find someone else, you don’t stay with them do you?
Thanks for the perspective all. I think I was getting cold feet about leaving/starting somewhere new and that comment just didn’t sit well with me.

Underneath that 15k is a layer of resentment. Don’t stay.

Never take the counter. P1 is right for justification. But also because you’re also now expendable because you might not put them in front of your health and happiness. Never take the counter.

Salty way of trying to guilt/bullshit you into staying. Stand your ground
That is a load of B.S. I had a similar experience once. I decided to stay. The caseload never decreased. I don’t regret staying all things considered but I think I should have. If anything, to show myself I could continue growing somewhere else.
Leave - a good supervisor/leader would be happy for you and wish you well.
leave ❤️
Nope.
