I get terrible anxiety talking to my boss or sharing any of my work / thoughts / ideas with them, because I know it'll more often than not be torn to shreds / be cut down. I've only had it with this boss.

How do I navigate / deal with this? Is it just a mindset change that I need to adopt?

I don’t think that’s normal. If you’re a CD you should have some amount of creative autonomy. Your boss should at least be providing constructive criticism or helping to build your ideas up, not cut them down. Any ECD is going to kill some ideas but it shouldn’t be a massacre when you walk in there. I don’t think you should learn to deal with this, I think you should find a new place to work.

To add to CD1: it’s also about managing your perception of feedback. Is he “tearing it down” and making no sense doing it to make you feel inferior? That’s poor leadership.

OR Is he “tearing it down” but giving accurate specific feedback that makes the work better? That’s proper feedback. Take emotion out of it and try to understand what the feedback is. That’s how you get better.

I agree with ECD1. Poor leadership can really kill your self development and future with the company. I would start looking for other options while trying to make the best of your current situation.

Yesterday my boss scheduled a meeting with me for something he needed help with. He was 15min late & took a phone call from his boss during…10min. This has become a habit. At one point I even stoped scheduling our 1:1’s because he misses them so often but he realized a couple months later & told me to start scheduling them again. The company has this rule where we have to check customers' IDs if they are buying anything age-restricted (alcohol, etc.) I hate it because customers get super mad at me and one of them told me "if you think I'm too young then you're stupid and don't deserve to have a job."
