I got a 7% raise yesterday and 'potential for a bonus', but I'm disappointed. Our ACD and junior copywriter left a year ago. Despite hiring another CW six months ago, my responsibilities have almost doubled in the past year.

My boss said he fought for the 7% raise - they originally offered less. They haven't told me what bonus I qualify for, only that I 'qualify for one this year', and they haven't given me any criteria to meet.

9+ years. Still a Senior Copywriter. Feeling undervalued. Help?

I think it’s easier to find prospective jobs as a jr, the higher you are up the ladder the less roles there are.

Being still a senior copywriter is not a problem. Be an ACD or CD is not mandatory. Don’t wait for recognition inside your company, if it doesn’t happen get it somewhere else, but have a competitive portfolio up to date, and have some offer on your sleeve. Market is hot for senior levels.

Why are you still there?

I’d start looking. You can use the bonus as a point to negotiate signing bonus at the new shop.

My raise was 1.5, if you quit I’ll quit with too!

They're just taking you for granted. I'm sure there's tons of things about your agency that keeps you there, but is any of it worth it if you don't feel like you are fairly compensated for the amount of hard work you put in? Switch, get a better pay, be where you are valued.

I would start looking elsewhere if I were you.

If your boss made the comment of fighting for 7% before you voiced any higher expectation, then they know it’s too low for your contributions. If you don’t want to leave the company, go tell your boss what you just told us. Be ready to move on (everyone should always be ready) and prioritize finding a company that fits your values as well as your standard of work.

The amount of people, even attorneys, who can't separate out the policy merits of abortion from the issue of whether it is a constitutional right is disappointing. I consider myself pro-choice ---I believe states should allow it, that the federal government can pass a statute to guarantee it, and that FDA statutes and regulations will preempt any state trying to ban chemical abortions through FDA approved drugs.
