Tough one, I’ve got a 2021 911 and a 2017 Macan GTS. The 911 is obviously more of a head turner and about each day I get a thumbs up or stranger compliment it. When I get back into the Macan it’s so much less road noise and infinitely smoother. Obviously haven’t driven the newest GTS, but given the new engine and new infotainment—it should have 95% of the acceleration but way more useable and practical. I’m seriously debating on reading both in for the Macan GTS myself.

I went white because it was no extra charge :)

uplifting

911 or Taycan if you want the most kicka** car (depending whether you prefer electric vs not). 911 if you’re going to keep it until the wheels fall off. Value:Car ratio wise, I’d highly consider the 718 (seems like you might be able to afford the GTS? If not, at least the S). This is an amazing driving experience for a lot less $$ than the others on your list. I started with a Boxster S as a “starter Porsche” thinking it would hold me over until I could afford a 911. As it turns out, I prefer the drive over (gasp) the 911 base.

Update - put in an order today for a 911 Carrera! I don’t need the S or above, and I kept it light on the options, but I’m very excited!

Small world! Nope no EV rebates in Texas; just the federal 7500 Keep an eye on the 200k cars and Q1/2 phase out thing (50%/25% of 7500 etc) if you go with a non-Tesla EV

I have to agree with skip the Tesla. I got to drive a P100D in ludicrous mode a while back and yes it puts up big numbers but it's astonishingly boring. You can't feel anything in terms of the road and the babysitting from the computers is not my style. If you are looking for a car with soul (which the other options make me think you are) then it's a terrible choice. I told the rep it seemed boring and asked if it had more fun settings and his answer was that it's for businessmen so it just drives nicely. I would go Cayman. They actually had to de-power it so it wouldn't smoke 911s on the track because the chassis is so good. Moving the engine forward makes it very balanced. (Built race cars in a past life so I respect handling as much as power)

You are me one year ago. I put in a deposit for a Boxster custom build but then switched to a Base 911. I'm very happy with my 911 and honestly can't imagine having a Boxster now

like

Base 911 if its 991.2 or 992. Can’t really use all the power of 911 S and above. With the base you can rev it a bit more and still have fun. Check out rennlist for more threads on this.

Not worth it imo. Most of my drives are under 30 minutes so I never get to really experience the sound system

All of us were so concerned with the car. More importantly, congratulations on the raise!

Generally speaking I’d say 911 - it’s special, though you’ll have to go S. Would also strongly consider a Boxster/Cayman GTS. The 4.0 NA is wonderful and will be more engaging than a turbo 911 if you ever take the car for a drive just for the enjoyment.

like

I feel like the boxster is a nice car but too small for me, I’m a taller guy so I feel like I would be crunched in there lol

911 no competition

911 Carrera and limit options to under $20k. It’s more car than you can use on the public roads 99.9% of the time. Be prepared that wait times can be 6 months or so, should still be able to get at MSRP. I’m coming up on my 10k mile service and have owned just 7 months.

Yea that’s fine with me! I won’t need a new car for a while. I’m trading in my Model 3 to capitalize on the value now, but my family has an old 4 runner we don’t really use anymore so I’ll be driving that for a bit. :) The first 10k service is included, right?

Ok so new question for this group - I just drove a friends GTS macan. It was such a fun car - and very usable. Would we still recommend a 911 over the Macan? Fully spec’d, I’d still come in a bit under budget. I really want a fun car for a single guy. Usability is really nice but I think the 911 will still be a good daily driver. Am I wrong?

My grandfather drove a panamera. It’s biased (and perhaps stupid) but I view that as a ‘grownups car’.

I work in a high COL area/big market at a small firm (just under 20 attorneys). There’s been a massive COL increase this year in addition to inflation in the area, so I’m concerned about this coming year’s raise not really being much if you factor in the hike in COL. What would be an acceptable percentage raise on top of the inflation percentage ifCOL increase is near 6%?
