Dry and dehydration are two different things, dehydration means your body isn’t absorbing water and it’s showing on your skin- you need to eat more fruits and water heavy veggies like cucumber- cells absorb water from food not from drinking water. Dry means you have little to no oil on your face, so you need a good moisturizer to compensate. Everyone should exfoliate only 2-3x a week, not everyday. over exfoliating is not good but it’ll just make your skin more sensitive, your skin’s ability to absorb has to do with how large the molecules are of the products youre using. Serums always have smaller molecules, try adding a hyaluronic acid serum into your routine- it’s great for all skin types to add hydration and help the serums “go deeper” I was an esthetician in a past life but I don’t know your skin just my thoughts based on what you posted
Manual exfoliation is really tough on skin, especially the sensitive skin on our face. Try switching to an AHA exfoliant and use it 2-3x a week.
Stop using the physical exfoliator every day. You only need that once a week :) It is likely damaging your moisture barrier.
L’occitane is super expensive (and luxurious, I love their scents!) but doesn’t rank particularly well/isn’t super effective. If you like luxurious but effective products you might look into the medical grade skincare brands like ZO skincare, IS Clinical, skinceuticals etc you’ll see better results :) (you could start on dermstore.com to see the most popular brands etc)
I like to use beautypedia.com to search the ingredients of products I’m buying and see what I’m actually paying for!
If you like podcasts, Breaking Beauty has a great episode with Renee Rouleau (famous celebrity facialist) who breaks down how to build a skincare routine. Renee Rouleau also has an amazing blog on her website if you prefer to read and learn!
It’s cheesy bc pyramid schemes but my mom is 50 & has great skin. People always think we are sisters. She’s always used Mary Kay products since being a teen. They’ve got formulas for all different skin this (oily, dry, combo, etc).
You need to find out your skin type to determine which products to use. Atm you’re just packing the wrong products on the surface which causes dehydration, wrinkles, etc. If the esthetician didn’t tell you your skin type and recommend quality products, find a new esthetician.
Not true, different oils have different absorbency. I work best w sweet almond oil, jojoba oil or oils closer to the natural consistency of our own body will penetrate best. Oils are cheap but you do have to find the one that works best. Expensive products are also effective, but cost 10x + price. It was worth it to me to just use the thing that works, put it in a nice looking pumper and move on with my life and reap the benefits of the active ingredient with no filler and savings. If you do use the wrong oil, yes it may not penetrate and you'll look like an oil slick.
Tatcha products have been wonderful. I use cetaphil for face wash, rice polish, then their vitamin c serum followed by their water cream in summer and their classic cream in winter.
Clinique’s moisturizer is an absolute classic too.

Be careful with harsh physical exfoliants the esti was right about that. If you love them and your skin can tolerate them like me, check out this I use 2-3x a week it is very gentle but still works:

For moisturizer maybe replace what your using with Versed Dew Point moisturizer. Simple & effective. I use it day and night.
Contd: she says the deeper layers of my skin aren’t absorbing the moisturizer because.. oil and heavy moisturizer don’t go deep.
I can’t tell if it’s just the sell tactic or if there really is something to this.
Help!
It is true, any oil you lather on directly on your skin will not be absorbed to the inner layers so it may seem like your skin looks healthy/shiny/plumped/glowing on thee surface level, but the inside (there are 7 layers) are like a dessert waiting for either increased intake of water & liquids or you using your skincare in the right order and having the right routine down for your skin type. Incorporate hydrating serums and moisturizers before applying your oils. Any oil/heavy (emollient type) creams should be last in your routine to "seal & lock in" the other hydrating/water based moisturizers and serums — the biggest takeaway is understanding your skin TYPE.
Youth to the People is amazing. I use their face wash, moisturizers, and vitamin c serum.
The only thing I put on my face that isn’t Youth to the People is my retinol and SPF (only because they don’t make one).
