If it gets you in the industry you want to be in and sets you up for what you want career wise there’s nothing wrong with a step back if it means jumping several steps forward.
How much do you make selling lube?
While having some leadership responsibility is a plus, the pay is only 65k after bonus and there is no commissions.
I went from Fuel Sales to Tech sales. The warning potential and job opportunities for the future make it worth it.
The only really opportunity you'd have is to stay where you are, go to another major or a smaller marketer. Once you get tech sales experience you'd have a lot more options (plus you don't need to travel to mines and other industrial locations).
You'll have an easier trying than me as I sold diesel and lubes are a little bit less of a commodity (technical product).
You gotta go tech sales. It’s worth it- your earning potential jumps drastically. Find a way to the enterprise and you’ll clear 300k

I'm in cyber security SaaS sales. If you can move into an AE position, the comp plans are around $300k/annum, 50% base and 50% commission. This first position will get you in the industry. Once you prove yourself, you'll be able to start looking at AE gigs.
