Research the job duties from the position description. Then research the salaries for those positions. Then you can say "The average salary for someone who does x, y, and z is $xxxx. There's a difference of $30k. Employees with this skill set on average for this area get paid x. Can we explore a higher salary?" You need to build your case with facts and help them understand why requesting what you deserve. Practice what you're going to say and be confident.
SMH... just because it's what you "expect" doesn't mean that; what you get. Companies don't pay random amounts to people because that's what they "expect" or negotiate. We extend offers commensurate with where your experience falls in the range- and what the BUDGETED salary band is for the job. 75/K might be the top end for that job. Your friend has been there 3 years, and she didn't start a 75 most likely. Look at your skills compared to the job qualifications posted- do you meet or exceed those qualifications? If you exceed them, maybe you can negotiate, if you don't I wouldn't get stupid. Add everything up- calculate total comp (TC) companies look at annual comp which includes your bonus too so your offer is $68,640- did you get any equity? Count that in. A sign on bonus? Is the cost of your benefits going down or up? If you have a reason to ask, then ask, but just expecting more bc that's what your friend makes isn't a very compelling argument.
I believe the reimbursements specialist industry is around 55k to 75k max unless you work directly with a pharmaceutical company then they pay big bucks for the same role. If there’s an opening I’d apply but their team is full for now her PM emailed me back via LinkedIn as I was late applying and he told me his team is all hired and he will keep me in mind for the next yr coming as they are expending. I was also referred to him by a friend of his but my bad luck I found out late…
Asking for more won’t make them rescind the offer. If you don’t ask, you will never know. And in my opinion companies have the expectation you will negotiate. Ask for 10k more than they offered. I’ve asked via email and on the phone before and didn’t need to give an explanation either time. If you feel the need to give an explanation let them know you are asking for more because based on their current offer it would not make financial sense for you to move because you would be taking such a major loss since the bonus is substantially lower. But I would not tell them your current salary or bonus.
I would talk to them on the phone. Thank them for the offer and tell them you are very excited about the offer and possibility of joining the team. However, after doing market research, the range you had in mind was 75-95k and are wondering what can be done to close the gap. When you are hired that is your biggest opportunity for negotiation. Make the most of it! If they extended an offer it’s unlikely that they will rescind it if you push back on the salary. Worst they will probably do is say no and stick to the original number.
Any other offers to leverage?
I have 10 years of experience in that field and the vacation days is same as my current company 20 days. I’m afraid if I say “The minimum base salary I would consider to proceed forward is $75,000” is that they would say no and proceed with someone else or don’t know if they’ll come back with a new offer a bit lower but around 70k?
Coach
I would request a call with the HR contact and discuss the salary. Let them know you are very interested in this role, but were a bit surprised by the offer. Say that given your years of experience etc (whatever selling point or other benchmark data you can provide) you were hoping for something closer to 80k.
Then see what the HR manager says. They may be able to come up some, but it likely won’t be all the way. My guess is they might come back with $70k or something around there.
If they aren’t willing to adjust the salary, you can also ask for a higher bonus target, sign on bonus, more vacation etc to improve your total package.
What was the interview process like? How quickly did they get back to you? You may have a feel for how excited they are about you based on whether they tried to sell the company to you etc. The more enthusiasm they had, the more likely they will negotiate in good faith with you.
At the end of the day, you have to make a call on the lowest number you are willing to move for.
Good luck OP!
You’re right my brother said the same. It’s okay
I’ll discuss during performance review
Times and try to get the most out of it ! Also thanks
For all of your replies ! Stay warm
Try to negotiate. Is the role something that excites you more than your current one? Because pay wise it’s not worth it. Might as well keep looking until you find one where they can pay you what you are looking for.
Thank you I’ll ask for 80k and if they come down to 75k I’ll be very happy. I really hope they are able to jump from 66k to 75k! … :(
