You’re not. I hate that stuff, too
I would say no. I see this happen a lot to people who are totally professional, act their age, confident. Some men are just like that. Also baby boomers aren't leaving the workforce so there are guys your dad's age working with you. to them you do look like a girl! It's not appropriate but it's happening and it's in my opinion partly a result of the economy and Boomers not leaving
So, do you address it? Or let it slide?
Internal person or client?
For an internal person, I would pull them aside and say, hey when we were in the meeting together, you called me a girl. I am sure it was not intentional. I just wanted to let you know that I prefer to be referred to as woman. Thank you. See if the behavior changes.
Hard to say what the client meant. Is there someone you trust whom you can ask for an opinion on the way you dress and are perceived in general? Just say, hey I’ve received some weird comments recently and I’m not sure if I’m paranoid but just wanted to get your thoughts on whether I’m perceived as immature and if there’s any specific feedback you can give me - clothes? Body language? The way I speak?
