I got laid off last month. I got a meager income of 450$/week, barely enough to pay the student loans. Hoping to manage the rest of year with that and the small severance package that I will receive. But, besides that my family is home. My college freshman is here and shared her good grades with me. As a family, we have decided that we will keep our expenses low- stay home & stay warm. I feel more content and full with my family home, even if I don’t have many resources to spend on stuff.

I’m glad you have a good perspective on this. Enjoy your time with your family.
Wishing you all the best.

Thanks.

OP - I feel you. I got laid off a few years ago when both of my twin daughters were in expensive colleges. That year was a killer, honestly. We cut out everything non-necessary. Luckily, we had enough in savings so that we could continue to pay all bills and also colleges. It drained through all of our savings account, though. I took some time off then started looking after about 4 months. Waited for the right opportunity, which took 4 more months. We are now back to where we were before. You can do this! Keep looking, stay positive. You’ll get through this.

likehelpful

Yup- that is the right attitude. It is amazing how much unnecessary spending you can cut out. And we aren’t even big spenders. Best wishes! It will all work out - don’t lose hope. God will provide 🙏

Sorry to hear you got laid off, but what???

like

Yeah I dropped off the last word because I wanted to be a tad bit nicer to you. In spirit of the holidays.

funny

What matters is that you have your family or someone special to share your time with. Sharing this as a reminder to those who had been let go, and who are going through the process to reset your priorities. We don’t need a lot of be happy.

OP, thank you for the reminder that it is the most important things in life that bring joy. Family and friends are most important.

So sorry this happened to you, especially at the holidays. Wishing you find lots of great opportunities in 2023.

Thank you for reemphasizing the message. I believe it’s also the spirit of the season. There was happiness in THAT manger, with just a few friends and family.

like

OP, take some rest and family time through the holidays. Think about the "what next" in January and spend focused time on a few opportunities. You have a great brand on your resume and good work experience as a result of that (and perhaps other good experience outside of ACN). You are going to land on your feet and do well. Its a process and it will take a few weeks/months, but got to center yourself in this fact that you have marketable skills and with a focused approach you will get to your next great opportunity and the intervening time will flash by - enjoy it with family till then. Good luck and prayers.

like

Thanks A2.

Yes, definitely the ACN experience and prior to that is a rich one. So, I am being hopeful.

Leveraging my network and some of them have been very helpful.

Student loans and you have a college freshman? Are you paying the freshman’s loans? Very confused

Never mind. It’s all worked out. Happy holidays and wishing all a happy new year!!

I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon? How do you tell them when the managing partner took you under his wing?

Hi everyone! Idk if I need advice or I’m venting but I’ve been looking for jobs actively right now and want to make a switch soon. There’s a gap in terms or compensation for the jobs I’m being approached for. These jobs offer the same compensation I’m at or slightly higher (5-7%). This is demotivating and I honestly don’t know what to do. I don’t make an awful lot (105K in NYC) and I’m looking for a 20-30% bump in terms of compensation. Am I crazy here?
