Agree with G1, no harm asking but extremely unlikely you’ll get that equity, and sign ons are becoming more rare, you could maybe get 15-25k tops
You can ask but that’s way too high IMO. I don’t think you’d even get that in Bay/NYC, and Chicago is a solid 15% drop from those paybands.
I would look at L6 SWE for NY/MTV and assume 15-20% less.
e.g., From what I read when I was recruiting, base is def not “astronomically high” I’ve seen base close to that # for L5 in MTV non tech.
I'm not in a HCOL city, probably fall in an MCOL city. I also didn't have competing offers.
Final accepted offer for L6 remote role in MCOL.
Base: 212k (18% increase over current)
RSU: 620 over 4/yr
Sign On: ~30k

Thanks G1 & G2. Strategy is to go in high and negotiate down, but also want to make sure it's not astronomically out of range. I know that sign-ons have been rare, which is a bummer since I know other FAANGs offer them. Going to give it a shot, but either way, stoked that I'm even at this stage!

What did you land on? I would have asked $270 base, $1.1M RSU, and $100K signing. Anchor high and they’ll start meeting you.
