I grabbed dinner with a friend during restaurant week (first time in ages!) and completely blacked out/fell on the floor waiting for dessert. Medics who arrived said my vitals were fine. The only thing I did differently was have a couple glasses of wine (first intake since NYE). Has this happened to you and do you know the cause? I’m getting a full physical with blood work. In retrospect, I’m glad I was out when this happened instead of alone at my place.

What exactly happened and what did you feel before blacking out?

Also happy you’re ok!!

I blacked out / passed out recently, and it was due to being overheated and dehydrated. I knew it was coming though because I got tunnel vision.
I suggest making sure you’re drinking plenty of water. If you get overheated, try pressing a cold/wet towel on your wrists. Stay healthy!!!

If it helps, I had a couple of syncope (sudden fainting) episodes in my 20s. I alwayd felt it coming on cause I would get a little fatigued or clammy and start seeing bright spots. Sometimes it was while I was sick, sometimes after strenuous workout, sometimes under completely normal conditions like walking around the office. Each of these times I was certain I wasn't low blood sugar or dehydrated due to a recent meal etc. I also fainted in a medical center once during a fortunate coincidence and was able to get my vitals and blood taken right then and there.

Long story short, after full blood work, neurological work up and cardiology work up, the doctors concluded that I was having vasovagal responses and that it was totally benign and nothing to be concerned about. I was extremely unsatisfied with this answer at the time but I truly just grew out of it (I'm 30 and my last episode was years ago).

Damn, perhaps low/high blood pressure? Get that checked out ASAP OP.

Medics took my vitals and said I was fine, but I’ll get checked out again with the full blood work and physical!

This happened to me years ago and I got a bad concussion. Hasn't happened since and never happened before it. The doctors told me that sometimes all the right conditions just line up and you can pass out. They ran tests and everything was fine. Advice was to just make sure hydrated and if you feel lightheaded at all immediately lie down. Hope you are feeling okay!

Oh no! I’m glad that was the last time foe you. In the 3rd grade, my classmate fainted and cracked his head open when he hit a metal doorstop. Thankfully I was nowhere near anything sharp or metal!

This happened to me at work actually around 2 years ago without alc even. But I could feel myself slowly lose consciousness. It never happened ever again after that! Hope that makes you feel a little better! Glad you're okay

Yeah fingers crossed!! I still don't know what happened that day and only have theories but as long as you feel okay and have tested well, I wouldn't worry too much 🤗

Blood pressure? Did you hurt yourself? Were you exposed to CO2 (like in some barbeque places)? Were you dehydrated?

like

Hmm... Not sure. My father had a similar issue where he blacked out while drinking but it was actually pain related (look up syncope).

But yes. Please consult a doctor.

I randomly fainted one morning when I was a kid... in my case I hadn't eaten anything in a while so that might have had something to do with it. But the doctors could find no explanation, it was just a freak thing. It's good you're getting checked out by your doctor -- if you're female, one other possibility is that your iron might be low -- but otherwise I wouldn't worry too much unless it happens again. Sometimes it just happens!

Yes, these things happen...just wish it didn’t happen on a Friday night at a fancy restaurant 😆 but as stated in my post I’m glad I wasn’t home alone!

This has happened to me on about 5 occasions. It’s usually moderate alcohol consumption + warm ambient temperature + dehydration. I dropped in Vegas one time and the medics said my blood pressure was incredibly low. I went to bed and was fine the next day. No real warning, until I see the dark spots!

like

Oh man, one time was enough for me! I also felt fine the next day as well.

All the women in my family are “fainters”. I’ve fainted probably 12 times in my life. 2 were pain related but the other 10 were completely random. I’ve done mountains of blood work, ekgs, heart ultrasounds, worn a blood pressure machine for 2 weeks straight, etc and no diagnostics or helpful results from any of them. I usually have a minute or 2 warning where i can lie down and that really helps..

like

Wow, interesting that they were not able to diagnose. At least you’re able to recognize they symptoms and hope you have your phone handy to call someone or 911 when that happens!

Maybe you were dehydrated ?

M1, I totally stocked up on Gatorade and coconut water the next day!!

Were you roofied?

Oh god no. I was out with a good friend.

Do you have a history of blacking out after drinking? Some people genetically black out after drinking too much too fast

I don’t, I’ve never blacked out ever!

Could be low blood sugar and standing up too fast

Medics said vitals were fine and I was sitting down the entire time when I passed out.

Have you started any recent medications? Some cause dehydration and could be the culprit too. Chat with your doc!!

Nope, no new meds

Lol I input 25 yds as a lap but maybe I needed to put 50? Silly little thing but it’ll drive me crazy haha
