I grew up in a culture where we don’t tip. Although I do try to tip the appropriate amount now, it kills me a little every time I do it.

I feel the same!! I tip at least 20%, but I hate tipping. I recently found out you’re supposed to tip hair stylists and movers. It confuses me because I’m paying for them to do their job. So what is the tip for haha.

I tip these kind of services when ppl go above and beyond for me.. i hate that were guilted into tipping ppl for doing their job (im not talking about wait staff who have the bs less than min wage thing)

like

Lol same. But I learned to just think of it as when the menu says something is $20, it really is $25. $1 for taxes (which in my country are always included) and $4 for a tip. That way it hurts less lol. But yeah I agree. Very deceiving practice but at least service in the US is better so I kinda get the point

I didnt realize how behind and weird America is with the tipping guilt culture until i started to travel.. many places ive been are legit offended when u try to tip them because they get a real wage.. yet in America the food industry is #1 with exponential growth and still holds on to the bs less than min wage thing.. faulty laws in place state if wait staff doesnt make x amount of money in tips theyre supposed to get the min wage yet its not enforced.. then i discovered the racist history of tipping in this country and how today it disproportionately effects women..shocking

like

Thats kind but u shouldnt have to.. their job should pay them

If we actually paid people a livable wage in this country, we wouldn’t need to rely on tips to make up the difference. I hate the practice as well and find it so bizarre. The price posted and agreed for services should be what’s paid, and we shouldn’t have to pay extra in some cases.

Lol same. 15% at the minimum, then I think about how grossly underpaid the staff are and think I can afford to tip them and many of them need it

Then maybe you can only afford to buy something with a price of 15 bc its really 20. Dont think of tip as extra. Its just that price shown is incomplete

Hello all, how can we approach the gender pay gap at our respective employers? I know I’ve mentioned it before but it seems to make Culture & Talent, as well as Legal cringe. I don’t expect them to publish salaries, nor do I wish this, I just want to see what steps we can take to make our voices heard. Let’s open the floor up for ideas and suggestions!!

Let me start by saying I love Accenture. Accenture has given me an opportunity to literally change my life for the better. That being said, I feel like my head is always being put in a box here. I feel frustrated in certain situations because I want to be innovative and move fast, but there’s a certain culture that forces me to reign back that innovation that I imagine exists in a more entrepreneurial role. Not sure what to do :/

Where do you work, and what educational benefits does your employer provide? Currently working full time and taking some classes toward my master’s. I’ve been at my firm for a little over 2 years as it was my first gig out of undergrad. It provides an annual stipend for education, but I’m bored, unchallenged, unfulfilled, and underpaid. I want to explore what other companies offer to make an educated decision as to whether I should go elsewhere. TIA!

Trying to figure out my freelance project rate for work with an agency. I know at my level, if I was a FTE, my rate would be between $300-$325 an hour at this agency, so am trying to translate that into a reasonable freelance hourly rate to then create a project estimate off of based on estimated hours. Am wondering how much agencies typically mark up freelancer costs when billing clients? Thanks in advance!
